Report: China detaining Christians in windowless ‘transformation’ facilities, using ‘brainwashing’ to get them to renounce their faith

Chinese officials are detaining Christians in windowless “transformation” facilities and using “brainwashing” to get them to renounce their faith,
Radio Free Asia reported.

What are the details?

RFA said it spoke to a member of a Christian house church who asked to be identified by a pseudonym — and “Li Yuese” told the outlet he was held for nearly 10 months in a facility run by the Chinese Communist Party’s United Front Work Department after a 2018 raid on his church.

Li called the facility “mobile,” said it “could just set up in some basement somewhere,” and that “it was staffed by people from several different government departments,” RFA noted.

He added that “they mainly target Christians who are members of house churches,” the outlet reported.

More from RFA:

The Chinese Communist Party, which embraces atheism, exercises tight controls over any form of religious practice among its citizens.

State security police and religious affairs bureau officials frequently raid unofficial “house churches” that aren’t members of the CCP-backed Three-Self Patriotic Association, although member churches have also been targeted at times.

The CCP under Xi Jinping regards Christianity as a dangerous foreign import, with party documents warning against the “infiltration of Western hostile forces” in the form of religion.

Li said most of his fellow inmates had been released on bail during criminal detention for taking part in church-related activities — but most hadn’t done anything that would result in criminal prosecution, so police sent them to the “transformation” facilities instead, the outlet reported.

“They were using brainwashing methods on those of us who were on bail from the detention center,” he told RFA, adding that “you have to accept the statement they prepare for you” and “if you refuse, you will be seen as having a bad attitude and they will keep you in detention and keep on beating you.”

Li added to the outlet that “there were no windows, no ventilation, and no time allowed outside” and that he was given just two meals a day.

Inmates who refused to “admit their mistakes” were held in solitary confinement for prolonged periods, RFA said.

“There is no time limit for the brainwashing process,” Li added to the outlet. “I don’t know the longest time anyone has been held there, but I was detained for eight or nine months.”

He also said since “you can’t see the sun,” all “concept of time” is lost, RFA reported.

Li also told the outlet that suicidal thoughts and self-harm were commonplace.

“I couldn’t sleep; after you’ve been in there a week, death starts to look better than staying there,” he recalled to RFA. “I bashed myself against the wall to self-harm.”

Li noted to the outlet one instance when he was “groggy and was trying to open my eyes, but I couldn’t. Four or five of them grabbed me by the arms and legs and pinned me to the ground. They they injected me with some drug, and brought me back to consciousness.”

He said that upon his release he was suffering from edema and had gained over 20 pounds, RFA reported.

Even state-run churches haven’t escaped the heavy hand of China’s communist authorities, as TheBlaze reported last year that officials allegedly ordered such congregations to praise Chinese President Xi Jinping’s handling of the coronavirus before being permitted to reopen.

Xi’s China Church Crackdown Worse Than Under Mao

youtu.be

Anything else?

Beyond the plight of churches in China, a story emerged in February about Chinese women who alleged they were inside the country’s concentration camps and claimed that “extremely sadistic” guards carried out gang rapes and brutal beatings.

In addition, the Associated Press last June reported that the Chinese government is “taking draconian measures to slash birth rates among Uyghurs and other minorities as part of a sweeping campaign to curb its Muslim population.” The investigation discovered “widespread and systematic” efforts to reduce the minority population, including state-mandated pregnancy checks of minority women, forced use of intrauterine devices, sterilization, and abortion.

President Joe Biden said of Xi Jinping during a February town hall that “the idea that I’m not going to speak out against what he’s doing in Hong Kong, what he’s doing with the Uyghurs in [the] western mountains of China… he gets it … Culturally there are different norms that each country and their leaders are expected to follow.”

Biden added at the town hall, “If you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been, the time when China has been victimized by the outer world is when they haven’t been unified at home. So the central — well, vastly overstated — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that.”

Global Persecution: The Number Of Christians Killed For Their Faith Increased By 60 Percent In Just One Year

For years I have been warning that Christian persecution was rising all over the globe, but we have never seen anything like the past year.  Christians are being slaughtered all across Africa, they are being taken to concentration camps in North Korea, thousands of churches have been brutally shut down under a new wave of persecution in China, and millions of believers throughout the Middle East must live knowing that each new day may be their last.  Of course most Americans have never heard about any of this because the mainstream media won’t cover it.

Thankfully, there are organizations that do keep track of what is happening to Christians around the globe, and one of them is Open Doors USA.  According to the group, the number of Christians that were killed for their faith was 60 percent higher in 2020 than it was in 2019…

The watchdog organization Open Doors USA says levels of Christian persecution are at a record high around the world. Open Doors reports that levels of Christian persecution are at a record high, revealing that the number of Christians murdered for their faith rose 60 percent in 2020.

A 6 percent rise in a single year would be bad.

A 60 percent increase is a nightmare.

Open Doors USA also just released the 2021 World Watch List in which they named the top 50 nations that are persecuting Christians the most.

Here are the top 10…

North Korea

Afghanistan

Somalia

Libya

Pakistan

Eritrea

Yemen

Iran

Nigeria

India

North Korea is definitely deserving of the number one spot on the list.  Most people tend to think of “concentration camps” as something that happened during World War II, but the truth is that North Korea has been running concentration camps for decades.

Right now, hundreds of thousands of prisoners are enslaved in these camps, and most of those that get sent to one of them are never heard from again

Two North Korean families prayed silently on the prison floor—making certain to keep their eyes open. Another detainee, a veteran of Kim Jong-il’s gulag system, asked them if they were afraid.

“No,” one of the mothers replied. “Jesus looks over us.”

The detainee began to cry, knowing the fate that awaited them. The next day, they were sent to Chongjin Susong political prison camp, and have not been heard from since.

When people describe North Korea as “evil”, they are not exaggerating one bit.

Sadly, Afghanistan also deserves their spot in the top 10.  Many of those that convert to Christianity face death, and the government that was installed following the U.S. invasion is extremely hostile to the Christian faith.

If this was the end result, why in the world did the U.S. sacrifice so much to bring “freedom” to that nation?  Thousands of U.S. soldiers died, countless more were injured, and we spent trillions of dollars fighting that war.

And now they are one of the most oppressive countries on the entire planet.

According to Open Doors, other nations such as India have been using COVID as an excuse to ramp up persecution of believers

And the pandemic has even been used as an excuse to increase that persecution. “The big surprise on the World Watch List 2021 is that extremists and governments are using COVID-19 as a justification to increase persecution against Christians and we see this in several places,” Curry told CBN News.

“In India, where local governments are using pressure on Christians to withhold food and medical care – over 115,000 incidents of this that we can document,” explained Curry. “It’s also extremists like in northern Nigeria. Boko Haram which is attacking Christian villages, knowing that there is nowhere for them to go and they’re taking food and medical supplies. We’ve documented this. This is happening more and more and that’s on top of the other incidents of persecution. So, there’s this level of intensity that’s been added to because of COVID.”

In Africa, mass slaughters of Christians are happening on a regular basis, but the mainstream media in the western world hardly ever mentions them.

For example, Ethiopian troops recently attacked a historic church in Tigray that is rumored to hold the Ark of the Covenant

On Tuesday, 15th of December, Ethiopian federal troops and Amhara militia approached the Mariam of Zion cathedral in the Tigrayan city of Aksum. It is possible that they thought that Tigrayan troops were sheltering in the church – taking advantage of the ancient right of sanctuary. According to a number of sources the church was full, with some saying that up to 1,000 people were in the building or the compound surrounding it.

The advancing soldiers caused consternation: a chapel in the compound is believed by Ethiopians to house the biblical Ark of the Covenant. Only a monk – appointed as its guardian – may see it. There was a huge commotion. Amhara soldiers are reported to have shouted that “the Ark belongs in Addis Ababa!” but this cannot be confirmed. Those inside the cathedral came out to try to defend the sacred object.

Those inside the church were determined to protect the Ark that was sitting inside, and Ethiopian troops opened fire.

In the end, “as many as 750 people” were mowed down…

A confrontation ensued. Everyone in the compound was forced into the square outside the cathedral. As the crowd milled around, there was further shouting and the troops opened fire on the protesting crowd. As many as 750 people are reported to have been killed.

News of the massacre has only gradually reached the outside world. People walked over 200 kilometres to the regional capital, Mekelle, and from there the story gradually filtered out – despite the clamp-down on the media in Tigray.

But have you heard anything about this from the mainstream media in the western world?

Of course not.  They are way too busy talking about what just happened at the U.S. Capitol to focus on anything else.

For the record, I do not believe that the real Ark of the Covenant was there.  Instead, I believe that what the Mariam of Zion cathedral in Aksum was protecting was a replica of the Ark that was brought back by the Queen of Sheba after she visited the land of Israel during the reign of King Solomon.

But even though it is not the real article, it is still an irreplaceable part of history.

Over in China, the persecution of Christians now resembles something out of a dystopian science fiction novel.  As I have written about previously, thousands of churches have been permanently shut down, Bibles are being regularly burned in public, and countless numbers of church leaders have been “disappeared”.

For those churches that are permitted to remain open, technology is used to carefully watch every move

Curry explained, “There’s 100 million Christians right now in China, and they (the regime) are using their technology to surveil the church. They’re watching their every move. They’re seeing when they go into church. They’re using facial recognition. They’re looking at their searches online. They have a massive surveillance system which is monitoring religious practice in China and it is absolutely chilling, and I think it poses the greatest threat to human rights.”

Of course animosity toward Christians is rapidly rising all over the western world as well, and what we have witnessed so far is just the beginning.

Every single day, the Christian faith is being demonized on television, in the movies, in our education system and by many prominent voices in our society.

Sadly, it is just a matter of time before the same level of persecution that we are seeing in China and elsewhere happens here too.

If you are a Christian, you better know what you believe and why you believe it, because the years ahead are going to test you greatly.

Biden staffer Catholic religion Catholics on the supreme court Christianity Intelwars Joe Biden Nikitha rai Persecution Shadi hamid

Biden campaign staffer suggests ‘intolerant’ religious views like those of Amy Coney Barrett should disqualify certain SCOTUS nominees

A staff member on Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign suggested that those with strong faiths — such as that of Orthodox Catholics, Jews, and Muslims — should perhaps not be permitted to serve on the Supreme Court, according to a report from National Review.

Now she appears to have gone missing from the internet as both her Twitter handle and LinkedIn account have been deactivated.

What are the details?

The staffer — Biden campaign Deputy Data Director for Pennsylvania Nikitha Rai — made the suggestion on Monday, intimating that a Supreme Court nominee’s faith should somehow disqualify them from serving as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

According to the outlet, the remarks came during a Twitter exchange between Rai and Brookings Institute Senior Fellow Shadi Hamid during which Rai suggested Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s Catholic beliefs were problematic.

The outlet reported:

Hamid had responded to a tweet that said Barrett was a trustee at a Catholic school that opposed same-sex marriage as homosexual acts are “at odds with Scripture.” Hamid replied, “Wait, why is this news? Isn’t this the standard position for any orthodox Catholic?”

“Unfortunately yes,” Rai reportedly responded.

Hamid then went on to note that both Orthodox Muslims and Jews also typically hold the same values.

“True,” Rai purportedly agreed. “I’d heavily prefer views like that not be elevated to SCOTUS, but unfortunately our current culture is still relatively intolerant. It will be awhile before those types of beliefs are so taboo that they’re disqualifiers.”

National Review reported that a search for Rai’s Twitter account rendered a page that states “This account doesn’t exist.”

TheBlaze reached out to Rai for comment on the exchange via her then-active LinkedIn page. She did not respond. Moments later, she appeared to have deactivated her LinkedIn page as well.

At the time of this reporting, Google still lists her LinkedIn profile as an active link.

Comedian Jeremy McLellan shared a screenshot of the purported exchange between Hamid and Rai, captioned, “Here’s a @JoeBiden staffer saying that orthodox Christianity, Islam, and Judaism should be made ‘taboo’ and driven from the public sphere. Beneath all the talk of ‘interfaith’ and ‘pluralism,’ this is what they really believe.”

What else?

In 2017, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) also took Barrett — a vocal Christian and former clerk for late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia — to task over her faith during her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, calling her “controversial.”

“Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that dogma and law are two different things, and I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma,” Feinstein said at the time. “The law is totally different. … The conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you. And that’s of concern.”

The Senate confirmed Barrett to the 7th Circuit Court by a vote of 55-43 on Oct. 31, 2017.

Have You Noticed How Much Delight They Are Taking In Shutting Down Churches All Over The United States?

Did you think that you would ever see the day when police in America would be patrolling church parking lots on Sunday morning in order to keep people away?  And did you think that you would ever see the day when Christians would be threatened with having their license plates recorded if they did attend church?  That is what the Democratic governor of the state of Kentucky just did, and he is getting a lot of national backlash over that move.  When “shelter-in-place” orders were first instituted all over the nation, most of them seemed quite reasonable, and we assumed that our leaders would use common sense in enforcing them.  But in recent days it has become clear that in many areas of the country churches and other Christian gatherings are specifically being singled out, and in some cases authorities have seemed to take quite a bit of glee in cracking down on Christians.  This sort of tyranny was never part of the bargain, and believers all over America are rightly pushing back against it.

Every American should be deeply alarmed by the precedent that is being set right now.  If our churches can be shut down any time an “emergency” comes along, and if the bar for declaring an “emergency” just keeps getting lower and lower, it creates the potential for a whole lot of abuse by tyrants both big and small in the days ahead.

Some of the things that we have seen happen over the last several days have been alarming to the extreme.  The following are just a few examples…

Kentucky: In Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Friday that anyone who goes to a mass gathering – including religious services – may have their license plates recorded. That information will be used to identify attendees, whom local health officials will contact and require to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Kentucky: I’m at Maryville Baptist Church, which continues to hold in-person services despite orders to cease . This morning, piles of nails have been scattered at every entrance.

Illinois: The Illinois State Police are warning that people who attend church services on Easter Sunday may face charges including “reckless conduct.” The police said that they will not be storming churches that violate the governor’s stay-at-home order, but that charges could come “down the line.”

California: In California, a federal judge denied a San Diego church’s request to hold an Easter service, even with social distancing measures including possibly requiring members to wear hazmat suits.

Mississippi: But in Mississippi, not even ‘drive-in’ church is being allowed, in what will likely be seen by most American Christians as an example of severe legal overreach and breach of rights against a community clearly enacting health measures recommended by the CDC of social distancing. “Your rights are suspended,” one police officer days ago told a local pastor who planned to hold modified drive-up services (see 1:20 mark below):

Many of our politicians, and this seems to particularly be true for those that lean left, seem to take great delight in confrontations with churches and Christian institutions that are not “submissive” enough.

And now that a national crisis is giving them an opportunity to abuse their power, many of them are more than happy to do so.

If our authorities are going to take advantage of these “shelter-in-place” orders to hurt those that they do not like, then they need to be ended immediately.

Prior to this pandemic, many churches all over America were just barely surviving because church attendance in this country is way below what it used to be

Just half of Americans reported belonging to a church, synagogue or mosque in 2018, according to Gallup polling, down from 70% two decades earlier.

Without any income currently coming in, many of those struggling churches may not survive, and one pollster is actually projecting that five percent of all churches in the U.S. could close permanently “over the next year”

Scott McConnell, executive director of Nashville, Tennessee-based LifeWay Research, which conducts surveys and research for Christian ministries, sounded a similar note.

“It would not surprise me at all if 5% of churches close over the next year,” McConnell said.

Meanwhile, abortion clinics have been deemed “essential” and remain open in most parts of the nation.  In fact, Planned Parenthood is quite proud that their doors remain open during this pandemic…

Planned Parenthood wants people to know that its doors are still open, even as the coronavirus epidemic sweeps the nation.

“Our doors will stay open because sexual and reproductive health care is extremely important, and we have to ensure access to it,” Meera Shah, chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood in the New York City suburbs of Long Island, Westchester, and Rockland, one of the hardest-hit regions in the country, told BuzzFeed News Thursday over the phone. “Pregnancy-related care, especially abortion care, is essential and life-affirming, especially now when there is so much insecurity around jobs and food and paychecks and childcare.”

And for some reason, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam decided that Friday would be a really great day to sign Virginia’s radical new pro-abortion law

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced on Good Friday that he signed into law a bill his new Democrat majority rushed to approve, one that repeals most restrictions on abortion in the state.

Northam minimized the extremity of the Reproductive Health Protection Act, referring in a press release to the restrictions on abortion that are now repealed as “anti-women’s health laws.”

If we keep going down this path as a nation, our story is not going to end well.

Sadly, there are no signs that our society is going to change course.

This pandemic should have been a wake up call, but instead it just seems to be making those that are taking America the wrong direction even more defiant.

I was horrified when the New York Times tried to blame Christians for the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.  The mainstream media always seems quite eager to cast Bible-believing Christians in a negative light, and on a national level bashing Christians has become a favorite pastime for many of those on the left.

And now that churches all over America are shut down for an extended period of time, many on the left couldn’t be happier.

Hindu extremists attack Christian hospital in India over Bible in room, persecution watchdog says

Hindu extremists attacked a Christian hospital in India, persecution watchdog group International Christian Concern reported Tuesday, citing an Asia News report.

The alleged reason for the attack? A Bible in a patient’s room.

What happened?

According to ICC, members of the radical Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh raided Sanjo Hospital in Karnataka, accused two Christians connected to the facility of blasphemy, and then beat them. Local police later arrested the two Christians, who were then denied bail, ICC said.

The attack stemmed from an interaction with a Hindu man who asked why a Bible was in the room with him while he was being treated at the hospital, said Father Josekutty Kalayil, who”takes care of the hospital’s legal affairs,” according to Asia News.

Simon George, one of the two Christians who were beaten by RSS, reportedly told the patient he was welcome to read it if he so desired.

Shortly after this interaction, the radicals attacked the hospital, Asia News reported.

The outlet added, “The extremists claim that the two denigrated Hindu deities. Instead of helping the victims of the attack, police took Simon George into custody. He applied for bail but the court turned him down.”

What else?

President of the Global Council of Indian Christians Sajan George said the hospital was attacked because it’s operated by Christians, even though the facility serves everybody and does not take faith into consideration for who it treats, Asia News said.

“Christian missionaries who work in the medical and educational field are targeted every day by extremists who try to discredit their altruistic work, which is to get people the ‘beneficial touch’ of Jesus,” Sajan George said, according to Asia News. “There is nothing criminal or illegal about keeping a Bible in a hospital room; no Hindu deity has been offended,”

The persecution watchdog group noted that Sajan George kept a Christ-like, forgiving attitude, saying, “Our Christian institutions serve mostly those who attack, abuse and assault us. May God forgive them for they know not what they do.”
