Last Minute Prepping Advice: Be Ready For Literally ANYTHING!

If there’s only one piece of advice, as a prepper, I could give to those who are just realizing they should be prepared, is in 2020, the truth is, you need to be prepared for literally anything. And I know, that is not that helpful, but let me explain…

With election chaos already promised, a second wave of the scamdemic being invented in front of our eyes, the potential for Earth changes and natural disasters increasing, and food shortages coming down the pike, it seems difficult to prepare for all of it.  Add in an economic collapse, the rollout of the New World Order digital currency system, and totalitarian restrictions on movements, and you have a difficult scenario to be ready for. There’s also the possibility of an EMP attack or a coronal mass ejection from our sun that could take down the power grid for months, if not longer. Literally, anything can happen.

When Not Having Power Kills: 11 Types of Medical Equipment Dependencies and What You Can Do To Prepare

If you watch mainstream media, (or at least understand their predictive programming) the most likely scenario is further economic terrorism in the form of a second lockdown to be blamed on the virus but will be incredibly restrictive. The other very likely thing to take place is election chaos that will be violent and bloody.

The military is being set up to be used against the American people by not only forcibly vaccinating them but “keeping the peace” when the promised election violence strikes.

We could disagree and argue all day about what will or will not happen in the coming months, but one thing is for certain, those who want total control over humanity will not stop and we should be prepared for literally anything.

Brace yourself, and stay braced.  It looks like things will continue to ramp up as we approach this election.

I would also suggest grabbing hard copies of books that you may need in order to get through what’s coming – no matter what that may be. The following books are all recommendations that I have read cover to cover and have hard copies of:

If there are other books you want, et them now. If you cannot afford the books, check thrift stores, and go to any number of prepper sites and print out articles.  We have plenty, as do other sites.  Don’t take advice if it doesn’t sit with you or resonate with your personal situation. Every single individual and family unit has a different dynamic and it is ok to disagree with the advice offered. But do at least listen to seasoned preppers who have spent a lifetime preparing for what we are about to face: the unknown catastrophe.

Please offer any advice to anyone else who may stumble upon this article in the comments. We have to start helping each other and standing together without fear to be able to beat whatever may be coming down the pike.

chaos Coronavirus election violence emergency Emergency Preparedness experts fake virus Fear Forecasting Headline News hype Intelwars Mainstream media massive shift plandemic planning political divide Preparedness preppers crazy scamdemic Second wave stockpile food Supplies Water

More Than Half of All Americans “Plan to Stockpile Food and Other Essentials” For the Chaotic Months Ahead

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.

There was a time when preppers were relentlessly mocked, but nobody is laughing now.  Today, most Americans are thinking about stockpiling food, and this massive shift in our national mindset has been sparked by concern about what is going to happen in the months ahead.

Many Americans believe that another wave of the coronavirus pandemic is coming, others believe that our ongoing economic depression will get even deeper, and yet others are convinced that the upcoming election could produce widespread violence.  Of course, there have always been people that have been deeply alarmed about future events, but we have never seen anything quite like this.  In fact, a brand new survey has found that over half of all Americans are currently planning “to stockpile food and other essentials”

Slightly more than half of Americans in a recent poll from Sports and Leisure Research Group say they already have or plan to stockpile food and other essentials. The chief reason: fears of a resurgent pandemic, which could lead to disruptions such as new restrictions on businesses. On Oct. 2, the number of COVID-19 cases in the USA was its highest in almost two months.

People still remember the shortages that we witnessed earlier this year when the coronavirus pandemic first erupted in this country, and those that ended up being stuck at home without enough toilet paper would rather not repeat that experience.

So as the mainstream media continues to hype a new wave of the pandemic, we should expect to see Americans hitting the grocery stores really hard.  And according to data company Envestnet Yodlee, there is evidence that this is already happening

Already, there’s some evidence that grocery sales are rising, according to data from industry sources. The typical bill for a trip to the grocery store rose to $72 for the week ended October 6, or 11% higher from the week before, according to data company Envestnet Yodlee.

“That’s the highest we’ve seen since the first week of June and the second-highest since we started tracking this in January,” said Bill Parsons, group president of data and analytics at Evestnet.

Fortunately, many grocery store chains anticipated a spike in demand in advance and started stocking up ahead of time.  The following comes from CNN

Grocery stores across the United States are stocking up on products to avoid shortages during a second wave of coronavirus.

Household products — including paper towels and Clorox wipes — have been difficult to find at times during the pandemic, and if grocery stores aren’t stocked up and prepared for second wave this winter, runs on products and shortages could happen again.

During a time when other retailers all over the nation are failing at a pace that we have never seen before, many grocery store chains are actually experiencing booming sales.

And of course I have been warning that this would eventually happen for a very long time.  During a time of crisis, demand for food and other essentials tends to go up and demand for non-essential items tends to go down.

Needless to say, this is something that is not just happening in the United States.  All over the world, we have seen demand for food on the rise, and this comes at a time when global food production has become increasingly stressed.

As a result, food prices all over the world are starting to escalate quite aggressively

Food prices continue rising during the coronavirus pandemic, jeopardizing food security for tens of millions worldwide.

On Thursday, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations said world food prices rose for the fourth consecutive month in September, led by surging prices for cereals and vegetable oils, reported Reuters.

FAO’s food price index, which tracks the international prices of the top traded food commodities (cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat, and sugar), averaged 97.9 in September versus a downwardly revised 95.9 in August.

Sadly, this is just the beginning.

Global food supplies will continue to get even tighter, and global demand for food will just continue to shoot higher.

So I would stock up while you still can because prices will never be lower than they are right now.

Meanwhile, our society continues to unravel right in front of our eyes.  You would think that the Lakers winning the NBA title would be a time to celebrate for the city of Los Angeles, but instead, large crowds of young people used it as an opportunity to riot and attack police officers

A crowd of more than 1,000 revelers descended into the area around Staples Center after the game. Unruly individuals mixed within the crowd began throwing glass bottles, rocks, and other projectiles at officers. That is when an unlawful assembly was declared, and only a limited number of people complied and began to disperse. A larger portion of the group broke off and began vandalizing businesses while continuing to engage in violent behavior, some aimed at responding officers.

In Portland, protesters just toppled statues of Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln during a “day of rage”, but the mainstream media didn’t seem to think that this was any sort of a problem.

And in the middle of the country, the violence never seems to stop in the city of Chicago

Five people were killed and 48 others were injured by gunfire this weekend in Chicago. Five of those wounded were teenagers.

Last weekend saw 37 people shot throughout the city, five of them fatally.

Of course, things could soon get a whole lot worse.

According to one recent survey, 56 percent of all Americans expect “an increase in violence as a result of the election”.

Isn’t that incredibly sad?

Many are still hoping that such a scenario can be avoided if one of the candidates is able to build an extremely large lead on election night.  A large enough lead could potentially cause the candidate that is behind to concede fairly quickly, and that may ease tensions.

But I wouldn’t count on that.

At this point, we are about 500 hours away from the election, and both sides are indicating that they are prepared to fight until the bitter end.

And the side that ultimately ends up losing is likely to throw a massive temper tantrum, and that won’t be good for our country at all.

So it makes sense that so many Americans are making extra preparations for the months that are ahead because it definitely appears that they could be quite rocky.

2020 agenda Audio bodies brutal virus city water supply Critical Thinking cult Donald Trump FEMA camps FEMA coffins Food Freemason Headline News illusion Indoctrination Intelwars Jeremy listen nuke pandemic plans Prepare right left paradigm sources traced tracked Vaccine violent voting is an illusion Water

Ex-Free Mason Details What’s Coming: If He’s Right, Things Are Going To Get BRUTAL!

An ex-free mason has come forward in the past in spite of threats to warn the public what’s being planned against them. “Jeremy” goes into detail about the brutal remainder of 2020 and if he’s being truthful, we have a rough road up ahead.

First, take anything a freemason says with a grain of salt. They are not above lying to push an agenda. However, that is not the overall tone of this audio. While listening to this ex-free mason, who has been threatened and harassed for coming forward in the past to warn us of things such as the manufactured riots, he sounds like he has a genuine concern for humanity. Please use your own discernment and employ critical thinking skills.

Tony from aminutetomidnite the YouTube channel has been in contact with “Jeremy” a 32 degree former freemason, who has been trying to warn the public about what’s coming. “Jeremy” is in hiding after receiving threats for telling Tony what he knows.

*Trigger warning: if you are still a member of the Trump cult, and plan on voting this fall, this audio will trigger you. If you want the truth (what most of us have been trying to tell you) listen with an open mind. If you are not ready to break free from the indoctrination and cognitive dissonance when it comes to the left vs. right paradigm illusion, just avoid listening to this.

As Tony said in the intro: “The things planned for the rest of the year are not good.” This is “heavy” information.

“The Western nations are definitely falling and going into a lockdown like we’ve never seen,” he says. Jeremy begins by explaining that the riots that were manufactured by the elites have not been nearly as violent as they need them to be. The left is not being nearly as destructive as they need to be to incite a response from the right that would fling the country into civil war (my word, not Jeremy’s, it seemed to be implied.) A lot is ettin ready to happen, and it will involve police and the death of a lot of black Americans.  Take note, he actually says, those on the right will be just as much the “useful idiots” as those on the left when it comes to the reaction to this manufactured “event.”

Because this hasn’t worked, and we are already supposed to be killing each other (pushing their agenda forward on our own) there’s a more sinister plan in the works.

*If you are reliant on city water, please make preparations to alter that NOW!

The freemason meetings have been so full of people lately, and Jeremy says that’s to discuss this horrific “pandemic” (NOT COVID-19) which he says will be done through the contamination of the water supply. “I don’t know what it is…it’s something probably they made and they’re gonna put it in the water in cities first,” he says. “The statistics were 60-70% of the people that come in contact with  it through shower or whatever, it’s gonna be fatal or have long-lasting effects.” He added that knowing the freemasons’ agenda, he wouldn’t be surprised if it made everyone sterile. This is what those FEMA coffins were for.

They will cut the water supply then, and you won’t be able to shower, so they will take you somewhere, and in order to take a shower, you’ll have to take their vaccine first. When people see dead bodies to the degree that we will, there will be no more resistance to a vaccine. People are going to want water, and they will have to et the vaccine in order to et it. They want to track and monitor everyone they can, and that’s what Donald Trump’s vaccine is for. “They have planned this from day one!”

CDC: Get Ready For Your Vaccine By November 1

He then goes on to explain that this election will be nothing like we’ve ever witnessed. All elections will be altered or stopped because of the “water virus” and the blame will be on the left for putting it in the water. They will then heavily clamp down on people and cut their power off and let them starve. After the election debacle, comes something incredibly disturbing.

They will use a “natural event” and manufacture it with some kind of a “nuke” so be aware of anything they try to pass off it doesn’t make sense.

Normalcy won’t be lasting for much longer, “you can take that to the bank,” Jeremey added. “Trump, he’s in there. He will be president until whatever they’re planning to do and whatever he is with them planning to do in this removal of him.” Basically, it’s all an act and Trump is in on it. “It is staged!” He adds, “people who lay down and worship this ‘right’ system of government, they’re just as bad! People who are relying on Trump to fix this, or any man…” he says. Stop relying on the government. They are in on it. All of them.

I have said this from the beginning and people don’t like it, but it’s time to start owning and ruling yourself. Stop giving power over your life to others. Wake up now! You will soon be out of time!

Catastrophic category 4 Emergency Preparedness experts Flooding Forecasters Forecasting Gulf Coast Headline News heavy flooding hurricane inland Intelwars intensifies life straw pathogens Preparedness Prepping rain seawater Storm Water wind

Prepare: Hurricane Laura Intensifies QUICKLY

Hurricane Laura, which is barreling toward the Gulf Coast, is expected to continue to intensify. Forecasters are now expecting hurricane Laura to “rapidly power up into a catastrophic” Category 4 hurricane.

If you live in the path of this hurricane, you probably know how to prepare, but for those who are new, hurricane preparedness should begin as soon as possible. Stay alert and prepared; this one is changing fast!

Hurricane Preparedness: Start Before The Storm

Hopefully, this will amount to little, considering the mainstream media’s bread and butter is fear-mongering. However, it never hurts to be ready. Laura’s maximum sustained winds have increased to near 110 mph with higher gusts, forecasters said. More than half a million people were ordered to flee the Gulf Coast on Tuesday as Laura strengthened into a hurricane that forecasters said could slam Texas and Louisiana with ferocious winds, heavy flooding, and the power to push seawater miles inland, according to a report by CNBC.

Remember the following:

The most important thing to remember is to hide from the wind but run from the water.  Don’t get caught in flooding and if it looks like that’s a possibility, grab your bag and bug out. Water weighs about 1,700 pounds per cubic yard. As it’s pushed by hurricane winds, it can act as a battering ram, pummeling the shore and buildings.

If you do evacuate, make sure you’ve got a place to go. Camping gear may make it easier to avoid FEMA shelters and keep some of your privacy. Make sure you’ve got a first aid kit and food in your bug out bag, along with some life straws. Water contamination could be a big problem and a life straw will remove a minimum of 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites, and filters to 0.2 microns; which surpasses EPA filter standards. –SHTFplan via The Prepper’s Blueprint

“Some areas when they wake up Thursday morning, they’re not going to believe what happened,” Stacy Stewart, a senior hurricane specialist at the hurricane center, said Wednesday. “We could see storm surge heights more than 15 feet in some areas,” Stewart said. “What doesn’t get blown down by the wind could easily get knocked down by the rising ocean waters pushing well inland.”

Stay safe and stay vigilant.

More Ugly Details Emerge in Federal Bribery Case with Ohio Utility, Legislators, Lobbyists, Donors, etc.

This article was originally published by B.N. Frank at Activist Post.

Activist Post has reported about recent legislator-utility bribery scandals in both Ohio and Illinois (see 123). Many don’t realize that similar bad behavior has also been pervasive for the last several years with the introduction, promotion, and installation of utility “Smart” Meters – electric, gas, and water.

Americans and people worldwide have been opposed to these 2-way wireless transmitting “Smart” Meters since they were first deployed. Their problems include fires, explosions, increased bills, and more (see 1234). They also DO NOT save meaningful amounts of energy – as originally promised. Unfortunately, this hasn’t stopped legislators, utility companies, and other ne’er-do-wells from continuing to promote and force their installation on homes and throughout communities.

Only time will tell if some of the same folks being investigated for what’s happening in Ohio used similar tactics for promoting and forcing the installation of First Energy “Smart” Meters in the state.

From the Columbus Dispatch:

Householder case: ‘Company C’ CEO Wayne Boich gave cash to HB 6 ‘dark money’ groups

The leader of a Columbus-based firm that made its family fortune in Ohio coal provided $25,000 of the money used to open bank accounts for the “dark-money” nonprofit at the center of the House Bill 6 scandal, The Dispatch has learned.

Wayne M. Boich, chairman and chief executive officer of Boich Companies, also later gave $100,000 to a for-profit company that spent nearly $1.5 million to support former House Speaker Larry Householder’s Republican candidates in the 2018 general election.

Boich is the CEO of “Company C,” listed in a federal court criminal complaint charging Householder and four others with racketeering, The Dispatch confirmed with a source close to the investigation of those involved with the campaign for HB 6.

Officials of the company have no comment, Boich spokesman Mike Dawson said Tuesday.

The House Bill 6 pay-to-play and bribery case, as described in a federal complaint, involves Akron-based FirstEnergy and affiliates routing nearly $61 million to Generation Now, a dark money nonprofit, to secure passage of the bill and defend it against a referendum repeal effort.

The secret money helped ensure a $1 billion-plus electricity ratepayer bailout of two nuclear power plants then owned by a FirstEnergy subsidiary and helped elect “Team Householder” House candidates to provide the votes needed to make him speaker, according to the charges.

Activist Post Editor’s Note: This is the final part of four in a series examining the FBI’s criminal complaint against former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and four others described as the Householder Enterprise. All five men and the group Generation Now were indicted Thursday on federal racketeering charges. Facts in this series are based on public records, including the charging documents, and past and recent interviews with public officials and other sources.

Former Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges asked Tyler Fehrman to coffee in September 2019.

The two apparently had become friends when Fehrman worked to help elect a couple of legislative candidates backed by now-former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder.

But in late 2019, Fehrman was working for the other side: He was the regional manager for the referendum campaign to overturn House Bill 6, known as a bailout for two nuclear power plants owned by a FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary.

And Borges hoped Fehrman would give him inside information to help the Householder “Enterprise” keep the referendum off the ballot, the FBI says in a criminal affidavit.

In exchange for the information, Borges offered to give Fehrman a substantial sum of money, the affidavit said.

The affidavit doesn’t identify Fehrman by name, but The Blade in Toledo revealed his identity and Fehrman later told The Plain Dealer of Cleveland what happened.

“Never did I ever think that Matt was going to put me in the position that he did,” Fehrman told The Plain Dealer. “One of the first things he told me was, ‘Dude, I don’t have a mortgage anymore. Like, I’m so taken care of. And we could do the same for you.’”

A List Of 50 Things You Should Get Right Now To Prepare For The Chaotic Events Of The Next 12 Months

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.

People have been asking me to do an article like this for quite some time.  In all the years that I have been writing, I have never seen so many of my readers so alarmed about our immediate future.

Over and over again, I have been getting emails from people asking for advice about how to prepare for what is ahead, and so many of them are using the word “urgency” to describe what they are feeling.  And I can definitely identify with that, because around the middle of last year that is a word that I started using constantly.  I felt an urgency about 2020 that I had never felt about any other upcoming year, and there were certain things that I knew that I had to get done.  One of those things that I had to get done was my new book, and it is now finished.  The plan is to release it this month, and after reading it there will be no doubt about why I have been feeling such a sense of urgency in recent months.

I want to warn you in advance that the list below is not an exhaustive list.

Instead, it is meant to be a very basic starting guide.  There are many other things that could (and probably should) be added to this list, and I very much encourage readers to leave comments after this article with their own suggestions and recommendations.  We should always be willing to learn from one another because nobody is an expert on everything.

To me, the four primary priorities for preparing for an emergency scenario are food, water, energy, and shelter.  Once you have got those four basic areas covered, you can certainly build on that foundation by addressing other considerations.

In the title of this article I use the phrase “the next 12 months”, but I do not mean to imply that everything will be fine after those 12 months are over.  In fact, I am convinced that our problems are only going to intensify as time rolls along.

And I certainly hope that you will not need everything on this list during the next 12 months.  Hopefully, you will not need to use some of these items for a few years.  But this is definitely a great opportunity to purchase many of these things because a lot of them are only going to become more expensive and more difficult to acquire the worse conditions get.

In putting this list together, I was envisioning a scenario in which most of you will be sheltering at home rather than “bugging out” to an alternative location.  In a “bugging out” scenario, this list would look quite a bit different.

Also, I didn’t address self-defense on this list, but without a doubt, it is very important.  In fact, if you live in or near a major city, it is imperative to have a plan for defending yourself and your family.  For years, I have been encouraging readers to move away from the major cities, but for a lot of people that simply isn’t possible at this moment.  More than 51 million Americans have filed new claims for unemployment so far this year, and so a good stable job is an extremely valuable thing to have at this moment.  If your job is keeping you in a potentially dangerous area right now, you will also want to have a plan for “bugging out” to a more remote location if the need arises.

With all of that being said, the following are 50 things that I am encouraging everyone to stock up on in order to prepare for the chaotic times that are coming…

Are there certain key items that you would add to this list?  If so, please feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts below.

I understand that there are a lot of people out there that are feeling extreme financial stress during this severe economic downturn, and acquiring all of the items on this list may not be possible.

And that is okay.  Our job is to do the very best that we can with what we have, and we shall trust God with the rest.

I know that a lot of people out there don’t like it when I write such “negative” articles.  But I wouldn’t be doing my duty if I didn’t warn people about what was coming, and I actually believe that articles like this give people a lot of hope.

There is hope in understanding what is coming, there is hope in getting prepared, and there is hope in connecting with others that are also preparing.

Just like we witnessed during the early stages of this COVID-19 pandemic, the people that will be freaking out when things get really crazy will be those that do not understand what is happening and haven’t made any preparations in advance.

Millions upon millions of Americans will not be able to handle the times that are coming, but we prepare because we believe that with God’s help we can make it through all of the storms that are ahead.

If you wish to mock us for being preppers, please feel free to do so, but you also need to be prepared to issue one whopper of an apology when you are forced to turn to one of us for help one day.

More Food Shortages In Store For Gulf Communities Due To Threat of Tropical Storm

This article was originally published by Sara Tipton at Ready Nutrition.

Tropical storm Cristobal is threatening gulf communities and could grow to become a hurricane in the coming week. Those who live on the gulf coast and near where the storm is threatening are not taking any chances and area grocery stores are already selling out of grocery essentials such as water, toilet paper, baking goods, and cleaning supplies. If you aren’t prepared for hurricanes, we’ve got you covered!

Tropical storm Cristobal is threatening gulf communities and could grow to become a hurricane late this weekend. Those who live on the gulf coast and near where the storm is threatening are not taking any chances. One source in Houston, Texas is claiming that many area grocery stores are already selling out of grocery essentials such as water, toilet paper, baking goods, and cleaning supplies. This coincides with many of the items that disappeared during Hurricane Harvey, the last major hurricane that made landfall in Texas. Considering the already existing food shortages from COVID there could be more run on grocery stores for Gulf coasters in the near future.

While this is only a Tropical Storm at the moment, hurricane season has started and weather experts predict another active season. Because the season is just brewing, it’s important to know how to prepare for hurricanes especially if you live where they are likely to affect you.

In The Prepper’s Blueprint, the importance of understanding how unpredictable hurricanes can be is discussed and emphasized. This type of natural disaster is truly one of the most difficult emergencies to prepare for simply because there are so many variables to account for. These storms can range from mild to severe and can cause wind damage, flooding, and tornadoes. You can be fully stocked with provisions, but what good will that do if your home is flooded in a matter of minutes and all of your supplies are destroyed or inaccessible?

Never Underestimate Tropical Storms and Hurricanes

You can never over prepare when it comes to hurricanes. Before Hurricane Harvey made landfall, it was predicted as merely a tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane. In fact, many living in the area did not think much of it in terms of severity and only stocked up on supplies for a few days. Within those few days, it had developed into a Category 4 with 132 mph winds. This is one example of how things can change quickly and sometimes our backup plans need plans!

Here’s How To Start!

We’re going to walk you through an easy 5-step process on preparing for hurricanes. Before a plan it made, it is imperative to research and learn about the aftermath of hurricanes. When you are informed on what you are facing, you will be able to make better decisions on how to best prepare for your family and your home. As well, when you are researching, remember to plan for the immediate threats that hurricane victims must be aware of and be prepared to encounter in the storm’s aftermath.

This hurricane primer has essential articles with supply lists that can aid you in preparing for the uncertainties a storm. As well, consider reading 20 Hurricane Survival Tips From Real-Life Scenarios to learn firsthand what other preppers have done.

  1. Have a plan. Making a plan ahead of time will keep you organized and ensure that all of your needs and supplies are accounted for. This short-term emergency checklist is good for getting the necessary supplies in place. At a minimum, you should keep an emergency bag filled with supplies to last for 72-hours. This is good for peace of mind, as well as, in the case of having to evacuate on a moment’s notice. If you want a complete supply list to fully prepare, check out our 52-Weeks to Preparedness.  If you are new to preparing for emergencies, you want o start with having multiple 72-hour bags packed for places where you spend most of your time: the home, vehicle, and workplace. This ensures all of your bases are covered. Then, you can expand your supplies for a full week, then a month, and longer if you wish. One of the best ways to get prepared is to start early before the masses rush the stores for supplies. There are a number of pre-season preparations that you will want to take into account long before any storm arises. It is imperative that you know all available evacuation routes in your area. The main roads and highways will likely suffer delays due to heavy traffic flow, so you will want to plan multiple alternative routes in order to ensure that you are not trapped in a flood while attempting to flee the storm.
  2. Get some supplies. You want to create a short-term emergency supply of not just food and water, but critical items that will disappear after a hurricane. (We all saw the shelves where toilet paper used to sit once the coronavirus was labeled a pandemic.) At a minimum, here are some hurricane supplies to start adding to your household:

If you already have some of the above items, it’s a good time to check all of your supplies to make sure you have what you need and are not lacking in certain areas. Moreover, consider having all members of the household brush up on essential skills and know some simple first aid and CPR. If medical issues arise in the aftermath of a hurricane, immediate medical care could be delayed.

3. Include your pets in your preparations! One of the reasons planning for emergencies before they occur is so important is that when panic sets in, you tend to forget the needs of others like their necessary prescription medicines or grabbing enough food for your pets. Learn more about pet preparedness.

4. Get supplies to protect your home. Having pre-cut boards and supplies prepped and on hand can save valuable time when you are under a hurricane threat. This checklist for preparing the exterior of the home should be printed out and put in an emergency binder for essential protocols to follow.

5. Plan for the worst-case – There are consequences to those who fail to prepare for disasters and are listed in detail in this article and should be read. Water contamination, infectious diseases, sanitation emergencies, and looting could all pose a problem for victims of hurricanes. While prepping for hurricanes at the last-minute can be a gamble, it is possible. Here are some tips for last-minute preparations for sheltering in place.

Preparing for a hurricane or tropical storm is multi-layered and often requires a well thought out plan. Because things can change so quickly, it’s very important to take your personal situation into account and prepare for even the unlikely scenarios.  Make sure you’ve got a backup plan if you need one, and that that plan has a backup.  Sometimes, no matter how well prepared we are, we have to change gears quickly to avoid a disaster.

Food storage is one of the first things you should consider when beginning to prepare for a crisis like the one we are in now, or the aftermath of this one, which will be far more severe. Other than water, your focus should be on food and how to make sure you’ve got enough.

The ten items that I’ve listed below are going to be a good way to start preparing.  They can still be purchased right now and will offer decent nutritional content when there’s no food anywhere else. The sooner you start, the better.   You may choose to purchase these items all at once, or you can pick up one or two items from the list each time you go grocery shopping.

  1. 20 lbs. of rice – this is a great filler and can be easily added to soups to bulk up the meal.
  2. 20 lbs. of beans black and pinto beans are both good choices. Beans are filling and nutrient-dense. You can get white beans or kidney beans too.  Really, just get something you’ll want to eat.
  3. 24 cans of meat – get something you like.  If you don’t like spam, don’t buy it.  We store canned chicken because that’s something everyone likes and will eat.
  4. 24 cans of vegetables – getting a variety of different vegetables could help with food boredom if you actually have to start eating from your prepper pantry, but it can be easier to just buy a whole bundle of the same canned vegetables.
  5. 24 cans of soup/broth – Again, but what you like and consider different kinds of soup.
  6. 12 large cans of spaghetti sauce – this stuff is cheap and it’s easy to make a quick meal out of it.  You can even heat it up without having pasta in a pinch and add some water for a tomato soup.
  7. 2 lbs. peanut butter – it won’t hurt to have more peanut butter.  It’s universally liked and lasts for years when stored properly and is full of healthy fats and proteins.
  8. 5 lbs. of salt to cure meat or season food.
  9. 10 lbs. pancake mix – look for one that only requires the addition of water to make up a batch of batter. These can be made for any meal and eaten with peanut butter, jam, or honey.
  10. 1 gallon of cooking oil – try to choose something like olive oil or coconut oil because those healthy fats will be a lot better for you.

Please don’t forget to have a working can opener on hand. These are fairly inexpensive but it will be worth having to get in your canned foods if you have to. You don’t have to spend a lot on a can opener, the only suggestion is to get one of decent quality that won’t break after a few uses and make sure it’s manual in case you need to use it in the absence of electricity.

Eating healthy may not be our biggest concern if we have to dip into our prepper pantry.  But during a pandemic such as the one we’re all living through now, it is beneficial to make sure your body has a fighting chance if you do come in contact with a viral infection.

These foods can hopefully help some people begin to start storing food and organizing a prepper pantry.  These aren’t, by any means, all of the foods you can store, but they are a good starting point for those just beginning.

Preparedness: How To Regrow Vegetables In Water

Food, at any time, could become a valuable commodity. In addition to learning to grow a garden, you should also know how to garden, save seeds, and “regrow” certain vegetables in water to get the most out of your garden.

A lot of preppers understand this idea, but many still don’t practice it. I admit that I don’t do this as often as I should, but now is good time to start! And getting started is simple. Just don’t throw away your vegetable food scraps, just yet! Those can be used to grow more vegetables, money can be saved, you’ll spend less time at the grocery stores, and won’t need to grow as much in your own garden.

Regrowing your vegetables in water can be done with store-bought vegetables too, and that is a great place to start.

These are the ten vegetables that will easily regrow in water in the comfort of your own home (there are others, but it can be easier to start here):

Bok Choy
Simply cut off leaves at the bottom of the stalks and within a few days, new growth will appear.

Cabbage
Cut the bottom of the head off, & place it in a shallow bowl with a small amount of water. Don’t let the leaves get too big, they’ll taste better when small.

Carrot Greens
When you’ve finished eating the root of the carrot plant, save the tops! Cut them down to just a few inches and watch them produce new green leaves.  Excellent for tossing into salads, make pesto or add to your green juices.

Celery
Cut the stalks down to about 2-3 inches tall.  Place the base of the plant and small roots into a shallow bowl with a small amount of water and watch a new small stalk begin to grow from the center.

Fennel
Cut the stalk down to about 1-2 inches tall, leaving the roots intact. Place in a shallow bowl with water.

Garlic Chives
Place a small garlic bulb that has started to grow a green shoot into a shallow bowl of water. Within a few days, you’ll be enjoying fresh garlic chives.

Green Onions
Cut the green part off of your green onion, and place the white stalk with the roots intact into a bowl of water.  The stalk will regrow the green section that you cut off.

Lettuce
Remove the bottom of the head, leaving it about 1-3 inches long.  Place that into a shallow bowl with water.  It will regrow small lettuce leaves in the center.

Leeks
Place the bottom section of the stalk, about 2-3 inches long, into a bowl with water. It will re-grow the center portion of the leek.

Lemon Grass
Plant the same as you would a leek. Remove all but 2-3 inches of the stalk, place in about 1/2 inch of water and watch it regrow from the center.

Don’t stop there either! Plant your own garden this year. Choose non-GMO heirloom seeds so you’ll have new seeds from your vegetable harvest every year. Save seeds and you can replant your garden without needing to purchase more seeds.

Once you’ve learned to garden, don’t let a late frost or an animal destroy your means of getting food.  You should also be able to forage for plants that are edible.  There are several books out there to help, the three below are highly rated and great resources for anyone looking for a more self-sustaining lifestyle:

Prepping: DIY Rainwater Harvesting System

Water storage can be a big problem for those with limited space and no well.  But there is a way to still prepare for your water needs in the event of a long term emergency.  You can use a Do-it-yourself rainwater harvesting system.

There is more than one way to go about creating your own system to have water when the SHTF. Additionally, rainwater harvesting is one of the most self-sufficient and environment-friendly methods of using water. You are collecting water from the sky as it falls, all the while trying to utilize is as much as you can, and without a price tag looming on it.

The average roof collects 600 gallons (2,271.2 L) of water for every inch of rainfall and you can make a rainwater collection system for under a hundred dollars and store hundreds of gallons of water to use for your garden or other purposes.  Make sure you have a filtration system in place before drinking this water just to be safe.

Please be aware that some states have banned rainwater collection and harvesting.

Installing a simple rain barrel to collect water is pretty easy. Through this do-it-yourself tutorial, you can make it in no time and start harvesting water in just four steps. Connecting a rain barrel system to the rainwater drainage pipes is an efficient way of collecting rainwater. What I also like about this tutorial is the reliance on visuals to explain the process, which is always helpful, especially to those who are new to prepping.

What You’ll Need

Obtain one or more water storage barrels. We suggest a food-grade BPA-free plastic water storage barrel (in case this water needs to be used for human consumption). A rain barrel can also be made from a large plastic trash can if you are on a budget and intend to use the water only in a garden or for washing. You’ll want a barrel that will hold 30 to 55 gallons (113.6 to 208.2 L) of water.

  • If you decide to get a used barrel, make sure that it didn’t formerly contain oil, pesticides, or any other type of toxic substance. It’s too difficult to clean these chemicals from the inside of the barrel, so using them is too risky.
  • If you plan on collecting a lot of water, get two or three barrels. You’ll be able to connect them so they’re all part of the same water collection system and this way you can have hundreds of gallons of water at your disposal.
  • 1 standard 1-inch hose spigot with ¾-in. pipe threads, so you can access water from your rain barrel.
  • 1 ¾-inch x ¾-inch coupling
  • 1 ¾-inch x ¾-inch bushing
  • 1 ¾-inch pipe thread with a 1-inch hose adapter
  • 1 ¾-inch lock nut
  • 4 metal washers
  • 1 roll Teflon thread tape
  • 1 tube silicone caulk
  • 1 “S”-shaped aluminum downspout elbow, to direct water from your downspout to your rain barrel
  • 1 piece of aluminum window screen, to keep leaves, bugs and other materials out of your water
  • 4-6 concrete blocks

Once you’ve got the supplies needed, level the area next to your downspout by clearing away any debris. Make sure you’ve cleared an area big enough to fit all the barrels you’d like to use. Put down a layer of pea gravel. This will provide better drainage around the rain barrels and help keep water away from the foundation of your home. Dig a 5-inch deep rectangle in the area you leveled to accommodate the rain barrels, and fill it with 1?2 inch (1.3 cm) of pea gravel. If you are putting barrels on concrete, don’t worry about the pea gravel. Stack the concrete blocks on the pea gravel to create a raised platform for your rainwater barrels.

Drill a spigot hole in the side of your barrel. It should be high enough up on the barrel to fit a bucket or water jug underneath. Make a 3/4-inch hole to properly fit the spigot you bought. Use caulk on both the inside and outside of the hole. Put the spigot and the coupling together. Use Teflon tape to wrap the threaded ends to create a tight seal and prevent leakage. Put a washer on the threaded end of the coupling and insert it through the hole in the barrel from the outside. Slip another washer over the pipe from the inside. Attach the bushing to hold the spigot in place.

(For pictures, please click here or watch the video below)

Next, make an overflow valve. Click here for detailed instructions if you are using more than one barrel. Put a filer at the top of the downspout so leaves and debris stay out of your water. Connect the downspout using the “S” elbow to your rain barrels.

This is just a simple way to start collecting rainwater, and there is more than one way to do this.  Make it work for you and your situation.  Prepping really isn’t a “one size fits all” deal.  We all have different setups and needs, so create something that works for you.  If something doesn’t work in this guide, scrap it and find what does work. We simply hope this gives you ideas on how to better prepare for an emergency.

Also, if you are new to prepping, don’t worry about trying this! We all started somewhere and as you get more ideas, you’ll be able to discover new and innovative ways to make things work for you in your current situation. Most preppers are here to help and offer advice that’s worked for them personally. If nothing else, you’ll come away with some great ideas on how to advance your preparedness.

Prepping Tips: Long & Short Term Water Storage

Water storage is a bit tricky for most people.  Few are fortunate enough to have a well on their property and a means of removing water from it without electricity.  But since there are a lot of new preppers out there now, we have decided to put together a helpful guide on how to store water for a short and long term emergency.

In a short term emergency, even if the power goes or you’re experiencing a massive storm, bottled water can be purchased at grocery stores. But there are other ways to have it on hand in case of an emergency and you don’t want to battle anyone at the store.  You could just buy a few cases of water beforehand and keep them around, but the plastic bottles will eventually begin to break down and could leech plastic into your drinking water. If you plan to store bottled water for a short term emergency, make sure to drink it every year and replace it before the leaching process can begin.

Unlike the water itself, which has existed on Earth for 4.5 billion years, that manufactured plastic bottle only has so much time before it “goes bad.” The plastic bottles that water comes packaged in (usually polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for retail bottles and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water cooler jugs). The bottle will eventually fail (expire) and begin to leach plastic chemicals into the water with an effect on the overall taste. So if you happen to find a water bottle well past its printed expiration date in your home, it’s probably safe to drink, if you don’t mind the chemical bits of bottle which have broken down and are now swirling around in it, but you should also be aware of the fact that it might not be super fresh tasting anymore either. But in a life and death situation, you could drink well-expired bottled water and probably be alright. Howver, there are many other options for storing water that could help you avoid drinking the plastic. –Ready Nutrition

Food Grade Plastic Containers

These are an excellent option. Make sure you choose BPA-free containers. These will be safer and if your water is not stored correctly, it can (and will) become toxic.  These containers come in a variety of sizes, but if you want long term water storage you’ll want some pretty big ones. The benefits of a BPA-free food-grade plastic is definitely the weight and durability.  These containers are difficult to break if you’re using them correctly and they are light enough to move around until you decide where you want them.  Once you have water in them though, they’ll obviously be pretty heavy.

Glass Containers

I am not a fan of these, personally. (But they may work for you. Remember, prepping is about what works best for you, in your life.) They are heavy and easy to drop and break. The cost isn’t worth it to me, however, glass is going to be your best bet if you are concerned about leeching. There is no chance that a glass container will leech.  But getting big enough containers to store enough water for the long term can be difficult and is often beyond the budget for some. Two 64 oz. jugs cost about $20 or, this pack of 4 glass one-gallon jugs costs $32.  By comparison, the plastic jug (pictured to the left) holds 15 gallons of water and costs $79.

How Much Water Should You Store?

The general “rule of thumb” is to store one gallon of water per person per day.  This may not be enough though if you want to wash clothes and dishes and bathe, but with conservation methods, you could certainly make that work. A better goal is to store two gallons per person per day and get enough for a two-week emergency when you first start. Build your storage from there.  It’s always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, and that especially applies to your water.

Filtration

You will also want a way to filter water.  If an emergency or disaster stretches out, (or you’re just beginning and you only have a couple of gallons of water stored) you are going to have to find another source of water when you diminish your storage.  A lot of people like LifeStraws, but a lot of people like the Sawyer water filtration system too.  This portable Berkely water filter (pictured to the right) is pricey but highly rated. Another good suggestion is to grab some water purification tablets. I keep these in my vehicle emergency kit.  Tablets will eventually get used up and are a better plan for a short term survival situation.

Survival Water Filter DIY – What to do in an Emergency!

Remember to be safe with your water! Drinking water directly from a lake or stream can make you very sick, which is why we have included several ways for you to filter water.  Lakes and streams can contain viruses, bacteria, protozoans, and parasites which can cause severe illness. (Click here for more information from the CDC about contaminates in natural water sources.)

Hopefully, this will give the newer preppers out there some ideas for their water storage and filtration.  If anyone has any other tips for beginners, be sure to leave them in the comments!

Pandemic Kits & Supplies Are SELLING OUT: Get What You Need!

Pandemic kits on Amazon have all sold out. Face masks are difficult to come by. Even Tyvek suits are going quickly and emergency food supplies are dwindling.  The American public appears to be preparing, but do we have everything we need?

As survival-minded people, we know we can’t depend on any government or organization to take care of us. Our self-reliant mindset leads us to conclude that we need to prepare now for the possibility of a global coronavirus pandemic, and most of us already have.  However, some are just beginning their journey to preparedness, and the coronavirus is a good reason to start.

Recently, we wrote an article detailing ways to set up a quarantine in your own home with a list of gear and supplies that you may want to have on hand, just in case. Because the majority of the items have sold out, we’ve included other options that are still available for purchase. Remember, don’t be turned off by the term “panic buying.” If you need it, get it. If you MIGHT need it, get it. It’s always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME (QUARANTINE) FOR A PANDEMIC

First, you need items to prevent contraction of the virus and its transmission should you or a family member get it. Face masks have been shown to be about 80% effective at prevention, and even a surgical mask can prevent you from transmitting the virus to someone else.  Even the surgeon general suggested the public stop buying masks so plenty would be available for the elitists.  And that’s why they come in at number one on our list:

  1. Body Suits and N95 Masks – make sure the mask fits snugly to your face for the best chance of prevention.
  2. Thick Plastic Sheeting (common at home improvement stores) and Duct tape or painters’ tape – to partition off a quarantine room if someone gets sick.
  3. Simple and easy to clean cot
  4. Strong High Mil Trash Bags
  5. Hydration and Electrolyte Options (sports drinks or others)
  6. Immune Booster (echinacea tea, for example) or vitamin C and/or zinc supplements.
  7. High-quality disinfectant soap, bleach, and scrubbing tools
  8.  Disposable latex gloves
  9. 5-gallon bucket(s) – can act as a backup toilet (multiple would be preferred)
  10. Water – in this case, at least 2 gallons of water per person for up to 7 days if possible. More is better. Also, consider a filter (like a life straw, one for each family member) because you never know just how dire things could get. You won’t want to get sicker by drinking contaminated water.
  11. Food – hopefully you have enough emergency food for a month because these are definitely in short supply right now.  One month should be long enough to ride out this virus.
  12. Over the Counter Medicines – these will help alleviate the symptoms of coronavirus if you happen to get it.  They won’t cure you but could make life a lot more comfortable as your body fights it off.
  13. First aid kit  – you should have one of these in all your vehicles and home anyway.

Hopefully, this list will help you fill in the gaps or at least come up with other items you could use to beef up your home quarantine kit. Prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. If you never need to use any of these items, you will have them the next time a possible pandemic strikes.

Prepping is very personal. If there’s something on this list you don’t think is necessary, don’t get it.  If there’s something not on this that you think will be valuable to you, get it. There’s no one perfect list for everyone or a “one size fits all” preparedness plan. Suggestions for additional supplies or ideas to enhance others’ preparedness are always welcome and could be invaluable to our beginner readers.

Last-Minute Coronavirus Quarantine Supplies: What to Buy (and Where to Get It) When the Stuff You Want Is Sold Out

This article was originally published by Daisy Luther at The Organic Prepper.

Do you have the horrible feeling you may have waited too long to purchase supplies for the possibility of quarantine due to the Covid-19 outbreak sweeping the United States? While it’s true that shelves across the nation are bare in some departments, there are still options.

In this article, I’ll suggest some last-minute emergency supplies you can purchase in place of the ones you wanted if you’ve waited too late to shop. To do this, you may have to cast away your plans of being organic and healthful, and you may not get the exact household products you want. You’re stuck with what’s left at this point. So please don’t write to me, angry and horrified because I suggested conventional crackers instead of chia seed ones that were ground by the hardened lava of a Chilean volcano, okay?

If you’re looking for general information about quarantines, go read this article. For detailed information on general preparedness, check out this book.

Don’t panic – you can still do this. Remember that those of us who are well-prepared all started somewhere – and most likely the place we started was where you are right now: realizing at the last minute we didn’t have what we needed.

These are the suggestions I would use myself to put together last-minute emergency supplies.

Some general advice

Don’t be married to the idea of getting everything at one store. Most folks are flocking to Walmart but there are so many other stores out there where you can purchase what you need. Consider the following for some of your supplies.

  • Office supply stores
  • Dollar stores
  • Discount stores
  • Large pharmacies
  • Grocery stores (for things other than groceries)
  • Target
  • Big Lots
  • Hardware stores

Think outside the Walmart box when prepping for an emergency.

What to buy when the store is out of water

Here’s a photo of the water aisle at a Walmart near where my daughter lives.

There are lots of other options if the water aisle looks like this. They may not be as healthy but they’ll keep you from dying of dehydration.

  • Sports drinks (like Gatorade)
  • Flavored or sparkling water
  • Juice boxes or individual bottles
  • Juice
  • Soda pop (not too much though because that can be dehydrating instead of replenishing)
  • Vegetable juice
  • Premade iced tea

A good trick here is to go to the aisle where people get individually packaged stuff for their kids’ lunches. You’ll find all sorts of beverage pouches and plastic bottles of drinks here.

I warned you – not the healthiest, but healthy is no longer available. Trust me when I tell you it will be far better than having nothing available to drink. Oh – and don’t forget the wine. It won’t really rehydrate you, but you won’t care as much that you don’t have water.

Finally, use containers. You still have running water, right? Use vessels you already have and/or buy containers, wash them, and fill them up. No one is going to be sold out of containers unless you specifically look for “Water Containers.” Grab mason jars, pitchers, canisters, etc. Just make sure they’re food-safe and you’re good.

What to buy when the store is out of those meals in a box

Everyone seems to be looking for things like macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, and ramen noodles. If this is something you desire for your stockpile, here are some options. (Some of these are healthier than the original.)

  • Get plain pasta and cheese powder to DIY your mac and cheese
  • Get powdered milk to use for when you run out of regular refrigerator milk
  • Instead of ramen, get angel hair pasta, cook as directed, and add some soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder
  • In place of Hamburger Helper and that type of thing, use regular pasta or rice, a few spices (like an Italian spice blend) and a half a jar of marinara sauce. For a creamy version, go with garlic powder, onion powder, and cream of mushroom soup concentrate.

All of these options are very simple to make.

What to buy when the store is out of rice

Rice seems to be a big seller and for good reason. It’s cheap and it can really extend a meal. When I stopped by Walmart to look at what was low, they were down to only the teeny tiny bags of rice.

  • Buy the teeny tiny bags – yes, they’re much more expensive but better than no rice at all.
  • Order large bags from Amazon – there’s still plenty of rice there. This page is all bags of rice that are 15 pounds or greater in size. If you choose a product that is part of Amazon Prime, you’ll probably have it faster. Before ordering, look at the estimated date of arrival and try to find one that will be to you in less than a week.
  • Get a different grain like pasta, quinoa, amaranth, or barley.

What to buy when the store is out of canned food

The things that tend to be gone first are items like canned pasta meals, soups, and chili. That makes sense because they’re pretty reasonable meals when heated up slightly, and can even be eaten cold out of the can in a worst-case scenario.  If your desired canned goods are not available, look to these items:

  • Canned baked beans (tasty right out of the can at room temp
  • Canned refried beans
  • Canned V-8 and a can of mixed vegetables (turn that into soup)
  • Canned potatoes (Mash them up or put them on the grill)
  • Canned fish

Try a different store – Walmart isn’t the only game in town. I had fantastic luck at Aldi getting my kids well-supplied. I was able to get them entire cases of canned fruits and veggies.

Or move away from the regular canned goods and see what they’ve got over on the International Food aisle:

  • Noodle bowls that just need boiling water
  • Soup that may not be as familiar
  • Small cans of salsa or enchilada sauce

Look in other areas for shelf-stable food.

  • Pudding
  • Applesauce
  • Pouches of precooked rice (some have beans and other vegetables mixed in)
  • Peanut butter
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Granola bars
  • Jerky
  • Candy
  • Veggie chips
  • Potato chips
  • Pre-popped popcorn
  • Fruit cups
  • That squirty yogurt you get in pouches (the shelf-stable kind, not the refrigerated kind)
  • Vienna sausages
  • Pre-cooked bacon

You get the idea. Go out there and be creative. Scan every aisle to look for things that won’t spoil that your family will eat. I know whenever I’ve grabbed this kind of stuff, my girls have been thrilled since we don’t usually keep junk food in the house.

What to buy when the store is out of toilet paper

Toilet paper has been a biggie. There are videos online of people literally coming to blows over TP to wipe their behinds. If your store is out of toilet paper, check out the following options.

  • Baby wipes or “flushable” wipes (regardless of what the package says, do not flush these – you won’t be able to get a plumber to your house if you’re quarantined.)
  • Paper towels – not soft but it will get your heinie clean – also do not flush
  • Kleenex – pro-tip – do not get the ones infused with Vicks. Even the cheapest facial tissues out there will be a lot more expensive than toilet paper but it’s better than nothing.
  • Order from Amazon. They still have tons and tons of TP. I just ordered this which will arrive on Monday.
  • Go to an office supply store or a janitorial warehouse
  • If you simply cannot manage to acquire toilet paper, you’re going to have to use cloth. Treat it like you would a cloth diaper and have a bucket by the toilet for soaking so that your homemade wipes come clean easily. Here’s an article about it.

Think creatively for bum-wiping. Toilet paper is a relatively new, albeit wonderful, invention.

What to get when the store is out of bleach and cleaning supplies

Lots of stores seem to be running low on bleach, Lysol, and cleaning wipes.

  • You can make bleach from pool shock (calcium hypochlorite). Get pool shock at your local swimming pool and jacuzzi store and be sure to select one that doesn’t have additions like algaecide, or here on Amazon.  Here are instructions on how to make bleach from pool shock.
  • Hit up your local office supply store like Staples or Business Depot for cleaning supplies. They’ll be more expensive than Walmart but you may be able to find what you need.
  • Try the hardware store, grocery store, or dollar store for cleaning supplies.
  • Again, Amazon may have what you need for cleaners and wipes.

Think creatively – all sorts of stores sell cleaning products.

What to get when the store is out of over-the-counter medications

If the first store you visit is out of OTC meds that you want to have on hand, you still have some options.

  • Visit pharmacies.
  • Most grocery stores have a pharmacy section.
  • You can order them on Amazon for both adults and children.
  • The dollar store carries some OTC meds in smaller packages. You might also find them at places like Dollar General and Family Dollar.

If you are really, truly desperate, truck stops and gas stations have small, expensive single packs of a lot of different medications.

Don’t forget something to do

If your family is cooped up in quarantine for weeks, you’re going to need something to do. Grab some stuff that the kids haven’t seen before, like new toys, games, or puzzles. Craft supplies might be fun – you may have time to learn that new skill you’ve been thinking about. Also, hit up the used book store or Goodwill and grab yourself a quarantine library. Get reading material for the whole family.

Remember that even in the house, you’ll want to stay active. It isn’t healthy physically or mentally to sit there watching Netflix 20 hours a day. Run up and down your stairs, work on a home project (you can finally declutter that storage room), or do some exercise videos with the family.

When the store is out of last-minute emergency supplies you wanted

Don’t despair if you can’t the last-minute emergency supplies you wanted. It just means you’re going to have to be flexible and creative. And don’t let people who accuse you of panic-buying or being “selfish” get you down. Sure, you waited later than is ideal but you are doing the best you can, and I commend you for doing so. Ignore the jerks – most of us are really glad you’re here and you’re trying.

And when this crisis is over, think long and hard about the things you wished you would have had. Make yourself a list and start buying these items and by the time the next disaster rolls around, you’ll be much further ahead.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME (QUARANTINE) FOR A PANDEMIC

Daisy Luther is the author of the book Be Ready for Anything: How to Survive Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Pandemics, Mass Shootings, Nuclear Disasters, and Other Life-Threatening Events. You want to be prepared for whatever emergencies come your way. While prepping for a dozen different disasters may sound like a daunting task, there’s good news.

Preparing for a wide variety of disasters requires the same basic supplies as preparing for one or two. For each event, there will be some special steps, unique information, and precautions you need to take, along with a few additional supplies, but your essentials will be the same.

WHO: It’s Too Early To Declare The Coronavirus A Pandemic, But It’s Not To Early To Prepare

The World Health Organization may be at the beginning stage of realizing that centralized planning and authoritative measures are not going to stop the spread of the coronavirus.  WHO says it’s too early to declare this outbreak a pandemic, but they are now urging preparations at the individual level.

Knowing how corrupt and ineffective centralized planning and the “authorities” have been throughout history, it does stand to reason that once again, preppers were right to get ready for a pandemic on their own without relying on the government’s assistance. “It is time to do everything you would do in preparing for a pandemic,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, said.

In just the past week, the coronavirus has seen a substantial spread outside of mainland China, according to CNBC. In Italy, the virus has infected more than 220 people and killed at least seven as of Monday morning. South Korea confirmed another 231 cases on Monday, which brings the total in the country to more than 830. And health officials in Iran have confirmed 61 total cases in the country, with 12 deaths nationwide.

“If we’re not using the P-word now, we’ll be using it in the days or weeks to come,” Isaac Bogoch, an infectious disease specialist and professor at the University of Toronto, said in a phone interview with CNBC. The data from China indeed shows a peak and decline, he added, but there are questions about the reliability of that data, especially considering China’s attempt to censor data and information even in other countries.

WHO and Google Work Together To Censor Coronavirus Information

The push to get people to prepare for the likelihood of this virus becoming a pandemic is there.  Health officials still don’t know how the coronavirus spreads, but it is likely that it’s similar to the flu or SARS; infected droplets are sneezed or coughed out by a person with the virus and another person breathes in those droplets. If this virus is airborne, a simple surgical mask isn’t likely to help. The best way to prevent contraction would be to avoid people.  However, if you need to be in public, a mask can be effective if you use the right one, and it’s certainly better than nothing.  This is also going to be more effective if those who are already sick also use a mask. Get one that fits snugly to the face and is an N100 mask.  If those are unavailable (they’ve been selling out) try to get the next best thing, which is the N99 mask.

You should also improve your handwashing technique, especially when in public.

This article contains some great information.  It was written as a way to prepare for a general pandemic back in November by the website Ready Nutrition:

The Grim Reality About Pandemics They Don’t Want You To Know: “No Country is Prepared”

Make sure you’ve got at least some food stored and water, along with a water filtration device. It won’t hurt to be “over” prepared in the event of a pandemic.  You should also check your first aid kit and make sure it’s adequate and there are some over the counter medications to at least, at the bare minimum, alleviate some symptoms if you or a family member does get sick.  Stay hydrated and keep your immune system in great shape by eating right, exercising, and getting adequate sleep.

Coronavirus Cases Surge: Pandemic Becomes More Likely As Cases Jump In Italy

Source: MSN

The coronavirus outbreak is inching closer to becoming a pandemic.  Italy has seen cases surge and now reports one death as global infections continue to rise. Authoritative containment efforts have not been effective to this point.

Authorities are struggling to contain and understand the outbreak in countries that have had a surge in infections, such as South Korea, Italy, and Iran.  Infected cases have skyrocketed and have increased over 2,000 percent in the past couple of weeks, according to a report by Fox News.  Italy is considered the site of Europe’s first major outbreak and the largest outside of Asia. The number of infected cases jumped to 152, compared to just three 10 days ago.

Italy’s outbreak is of concern to many health officials.  The country has seen 110 cases in Milan, which is its financial district and Venice, known as a famous hub for tourists throughout the world. The possibility of spreading the virus from a tourist destination like Venice to the entire globe is now possible. Events and soccer matches were canceled in the country, while some of its movie theatres were reportedly shuttered, including Milan’s legendary La Scala.

“We are worried about the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran and in Italy,” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference in Stockholm via a video link.

Food and water provisions should be made before this virus has a chance to become a pandemic, if at all possible. Face masks may help, however, avoiding the general public is the best chance at the prevention right now.  Make sure your first aid kit is up to par and that you are able to care for yourself or a sick family member if need be.  Quarantining on your own may be the best advice yet. It’s times like this that I like to say “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”  If you can prevent the contraction of the virus (and transmission to your family members), that will be your best chance. However, if you do get sick, you will want to be prepared for the long haul, especially in hospitals fill up in the event that this virus becomes a pandemic.

Best Immune System-Boosting Foods To Get You Through Flu Season

Getting through flu season without coming down with the virus is often an uphill battle for people.  With immune systems running on empty during the winter months thanks to a lack of Vitamin D from the sun, it is vital that you eat foods that will help your immune system fight back!

This year, it isn’t just the flu that people are concerned with. The coronavirus is also spreading quickly, and if it does impact the United States, it’ll be important for your immune system to be in the best shape possible. That means you need to eat right.

  • Ginger – Try some ginger tea or cook with fresh ginger root. When it comes to treating a common cold (which is a virus), ginger is one of the best foods for relief. In one study, researchers summarized that ginger’s potent anti-inflammatory properties were key in the root’s powers to combat a cold or flu. Because inflammation can affect your body’s immune response, anti-inflammatory ginger can play a key role in boosting your immunity.
  • Water – While this is technically not a food, staying hydrated is essential for keeping your immune system running like a well-maintained machine. And, if you do get sick, staying hydrated can help loosen that nasty trapped mucus to relieve pressure. Try drinking at least the recommended eight glasses of water a day to keep yourself fully hydrated since we tend to lose more fluids when we’re sick.
  • Oranges – Oranges contain a lot of vitamin C, which is also important for your immune system. According to a review conducted by the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, at the Australian National University, vitamin C is helpful in preventing the common cold and other viruses for people exposed and can help lower the duration and severity of a cold.
  • Broccoli – Broccoli can be considered a superfood because of how nutrient-dense this vegetable is. University of California in Los Angeles researchers reported broccoli can be a great addition to our diet if you’re trying to prevent a cold. Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables were proven to help boost immunity, according to the study. Researchers claim that sulforaphane, a chemical in the vegetable, switches on antioxidant genes and enzymes in specific immune cells, which combat free radicals in your body and prevent you from getting sick.
  • Garlic– Garlic has built a reputation for being one of the best cold-curing foods, and for good reason. It isn’t just an “old wives tale.”  A review of the food published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews showed that a group of participants in a study who ate garlic over a three-month period only had 24 cases of the common cold total, a significant decrease in comparison to the 65 cases reported by the control group. However, the researchers noted more studies need to be conducted in order to validate garlic’s true impact on the common cold.

Keep in mind that any citrus fruits that are high in vitamin C can be eaten, not just oranges. You also want to make sure you are getting enough sleep, and refraining from drinking alcohol or smoking in excess. While it is true that you can always wear a face mask to help prevent the flu or coronavirus infection, it never hurts to fortify the body from the inside out!

Hiking to Piedra Falls

Piedra Falls

Piedra Falls is located about 30 miles north of Pagasoa Springs, Colorado in the San Juan National Forest. It’s a leisurely hike of about 3/4 mile to get to the falls and makes a very pleasant day hike through the forest and along the middle fork of the Piedra River.
Trailhead

Start of the trail in the San Juan National Forest.

Further along the trail it gets a little rocky.
Back into the woods again.
A little shade along the way.

Trail gets rocky again.

Trail runs along the side of the Piedra River as you get closer to the falls.

There’s a narrow spot between the rocks as you approach the basin of the falls.

The basin of the falls at the end of the trail.

Got day hike?

Staying above the water line!
