VIDEO: Tacoma police vehicle plows through crowd, officer placed on leave

A Tacoma Police officer has been temporarily placed on leave after plowing through a crowd in Washington state. The dramatic and graphic scene was captured on video.

Tacoma Police were responding to a “car meet” that allegedly got “out of control.” Video shows cars doing “burnouts” and “donuts” in the middle of an intersection. The car meet had “approximately 100 people present blocking the intersection when officers arrived on scene,” the Tacoma Police said in a press release.

At one point, one of the vehicles doing donuts appears to hit an onlooker.

“Tacoma Police officers responding to the location began clearing the intersection of vehicles and people for the safety of those gathered and people trying to use the street,” the police department stated.

The Tacoma Police Department statement said the crowd surrounded the vehicle, and people “hit the body of the police vehicle and its windows as the officer was stopped in the street.”

“The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd,” the press release said. “The officer had his lights and sirens activated. While trying to extricate himself from an unsafe position, the officer drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others.”

Videos from the scene of the incident show the stopped police SUV and the crowd gathered around it. Then the police vehicle accelerates forward, plowing into the crowd. The vehicle knocks several people to the ground, and one man is seen in the video being run over by the front and rear tires.

One person sustained a laceration from the incident and was transported to a local hospital. The police were unaware of the person’s condition.

City Manager Elizabeth Pauli told the News Tribune that the officer driving the vehicle would be placed on leave. The investigation has been turned over to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team.

“I am concerned that our department is experiencing another use of deadly force incident,” interim Tacoma Police Chief Mike Ake said. “I send my thoughts to anyone who was injured in tonight’s event, and am committed to our Department’s full cooperation in the independent investigation and to assess the actions of the department’s response during the incident.”

Black motorist goes ballistic on Black Lives Matter protesters blocking street: ‘I’m blacker than you!’

A black motorist was captured on video chewing out a large group of Black Lives Matter protesters who were blocking a street Thursday in Tacoma, Washington.

What happened?

The clip initially shows the motorist — wearing a red shirt, jeans, and dark baseball cap — standing next to the driver-side door of a blue pickup truck at an intersection that the protesters appear to have blocked. The protesters are yelling at him — and he’s yelling right back.

Much of what’s said isn’t clear, but it appears the furious motorist is telling protesters that their militancy is having a negative impact on the black lives they supposedly care about.

“I’m blacker than you!” the motorist hollers at the group. “I’m blacker than you!”

One of the protesters is heard on the clip hilariously pleading several times to “de-escalate!” before she apparently starts fearing for her comrades’ safety and yells at the motorist to “stop, man!” and “just get in your f***ing truck and go!”

As the video continues, things heat up even more as other black people appear to take the motorist’s side and confront the Black Lives Matter group.

Anything else?

Black Lives Matter protesters in Tacoma blocked southbound Interstate 5 later Thursday evening, the News Tribune reported.

Earlier, they rallied in front of Tacoma police headquarters, the paper said, adding that some signs referenced Manuel Ellis, a Tacoma man who died while being restrained by Tacoma police in March.

The News Tribune said at about 5:30 p.m. the protesters began moving down South Pine Street toward South 38th Street and then started to block traffic.

A police spokeswoman told the paper that members moved onto I-5 sometime after 7 p.m.

Indeed, the below clip shows many of the same members of the Black Lives Matter group who were arguing with the motorist at the intersection now standing in the freeway lanes and chanting “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” and “No justice, no peace!”

VIDEO: Surrogate at Bernie Sanders rally exclaims ‘we need a powerful socialist movement to end all capitalist oppression!’ to thunderous applause

Speaking at a rally Monday for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Tacoma, Washington, a campaign surrogate dispelled any remaining doubts that Sanders and his supporters ardently support socialism and desire to implement it in the United States.

Kshama Sawant, herself a socialist member on the Seattle City Council, delivered an impassioned speech at the rally, which aimed to criticize “corporate elites” and the “billionaire class” in Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ backyard.

“We need a powerful socialist movement to end all capitalist oppression and exploitation!” she exclaimed to thunderous applause during the speech.

The controversial figure — who helped lead the push to raise the minimum wage in Seattle to $15 an hour and once drew ire from the city’s mayor after calling for a “wave of protests and strikes” to shut down highways, airports and other key infrastructure — made sure the crowd knew what kind of campaign Sanders is running.

“Bernie’s socialist campaign is poised to win from Massachusetts to California,” Sawant said.

During the speech, Sawant slammed the Democratic establishment, calling for the creation of “a new party of, by, and for working people” in order to “win Medicare for All, to end the racist mass incarceration system, and to win a bold Green New Deal to avoid climate catastrophe.”

She also warned of elites “rigging” the election against Sanders in favor of their preferred candidates, such as former Vice President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Sanders has referred to himself as a democratic socialist akin to a type of socialism represented in some European countries, but has often shied away from labeling himself a socialist on the presidential campaign trail, despite a lengthy career of heaping praise on socialist and communist regimes.

Sawant had no problem doing as much for him, and his supporters didn’t seem to mind.
