The Deep State’s Stealthy, Subversive, Silent Coup to Ensure Nothing Changes

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead at The Rutherford Institute.

“You have such a fervent, passionate, evangelical faith in this country…why in the name of God don’t you have any faith in the system of government you’re so hell-bent to protect? You want to defend the United States of America, then defend it with the tools it supplies you with—its Constitution. You ask for a mandate, General, from a ballot box. You don’t steal it after midnight, when the country has its back turned.”—Seven Days in May (1964)

No doubt about it: the coup d’etat was successful.

That January 6 attempt by so-called insurrectionists to overturn the election results was not the real coup, however. Those who answered President Trump’s call to march on the Capitol were merely the fall guys, manipulated into creating the perfect crisis for the Deep State—a.k.a. the Police State a.k.a. the Military-Industrial Complex a.k.a. the Techno-Corporate State a.k.a. the Surveillance State—to swoop in and take control.

It took no time at all for the switch to be thrown and the nation’s capital to be placed under a military lockdown, online speech forums restricted, and individuals with subversive or controversial viewpoints ferreted out, investigated, shamed, and/or shunned.

This new order didn’t emerge into being this week, or this month, or even this year, however.

Indeed, the real coup happened when our government “of the people, by the people, for the people” was overthrown by a profit-driven, militaristic, techno-corporate state that is in cahoots with a government “of the rich, by the elite, for the corporations.”

We’ve been mired in this swamp for decades now.

Every successive president starting with Franklin D. Roosevelt has been bought lock, stock, and barrel and made to dance to the Deep State’s tune.

Enter Donald Trump, the candidate who swore to drain the swamp in Washington DC. Instead of putting an end to the corruption, however, Trump paved the way for lobbyists, corporations, the military-industrial complex, and the Deep State to feast on the carcass of the dying American republic.

Joe Biden will be no different: his job is to keep the Deep State in power.

Step away from the cult of personality politics and you’ll find that beneath the power suits, they’re all alike.

Follow the money.  It always points the way.

As Bertram Gross noted in Friendly Fascism: The New Face of Power in America, “evil now wears a friendlier face than ever before in American history.”

Writing in 1980, Gross predicted a future in which he saw:

…a new despotism creeping slowly across America. Faceless oligarchs sit at command posts of a corporate-government complex that has been slowly evolving over many decades. In efforts to enlarge their own powers and privileges, they are willing to have others suffer the intended or unintended consequences of their institutional or personal greed. For Americans, these consequences include chronic inflation, recurring recession, open and hidden unemployment, the poisoning of air, water, soil and bodies, and, more important, the subversion of our constitution. More broadly, consequences include widespread intervention in international politics through economic manipulation, covert action, or military invasion

This stealthy, creeping, silent coup that Gross prophesied is the same danger that writer Rod Serling envisioned in the 1964 political thriller Seven Days in May, a clear warning to beware of martial law packaged as a well-meaning and overriding concern for the nation’s security.

Incredibly enough, almost 60 years later, we find ourselves hostages to a government-run more by military doctrine and corporate greed than by the rule of law established in the Constitution. Indeed, proving once again that fact and fiction are not dissimilar, today’s current events could well have been lifted straight out of Seven Days in May, which takes viewers into eerily familiar terrain.

The premise is straightforward.

With the Cold War at its height, an unpopular U.S. President signs a momentous nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. Believing that the treaty constitutes an unacceptable threat to the security of the United States and certain that he knows what is best for the nation, General James Mattoon Scott (played by Burt Lancaster), the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and presidential hopeful, plans a military takeover of the national government.  When Gen. Scott’s aide, Col. Casey (Kirk Douglas), discovers the planned military coup, he goes to the President with the information. The race for command of the U.S. government begins, with the clock ticking off the hours until the military plotters plan to overthrow the President.

Needless to say, while on the big screen, the military coup is foiled and the republic is saved in a matter of hours, in the real world, the plot thickens and spreads out over the past half-century.

We’ve been losing our freedoms so incrementally for so long—sold to us in the name of national security and global peace, maintained by way of martial law disguised as law and order, and enforced by a standing army of militarized police and a political elite determined to maintain their powers at all costs—that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when it all started going downhill, but we’ve been on that fast-moving, downward trajectory for some time now.

The question is no longer whether the U.S. government will be preyed upon and taken over by the military-industrial complex. That’s a done deal, but martial law disguised as national security is only one small part of the greater deception we’ve been fooled into believing is for our own good.

How do you get a nation to docilely accept a police state? How do you persuade a populace to accept metal detectors and pat-downs in their schools, bag searches in their train stations, tanks and military weaponry used by their small-town police forces, surveillance cameras in their traffic lights, police strip searches on their public roads, unwarranted blood draws at drunk driving checkpoints, whole-body scanners in their airports, and government agents monitoring their communications?

Try to ram such a state of affairs down the throats of the populace, and you might find yourself with a rebellion on your hands. Instead, you bombard them with constant color-coded alerts, terrorize them with shootings and bomb threats in malls, schools, and sports arenas, desensitize them with a steady diet of police violence, and sell the whole package to them as being for their best interests.

This present military occupation of the nation’s capital by 25,000 troops as part of the so-called “peaceful” transfer of power from one administration to the next is telling.

This is not the language of a free people. This is the language of force.

Still, you can’t say we weren’t warned.

Back in 2008, an Army War College report revealed that “widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.” The 44-page report went on to warn that potential causes for such civil unrest could include another terrorist attack, “unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters.”

In 2009, reports by the Department of Homeland Security surfaced that labeled right-wing and left-wing activists and military veterans as extremists (a.k.a. terrorists) and called on the government to subject such targeted individuals to full-fledged pre-crime surveillance. Almost a decade later, after spending billions to fight terrorism, the DHS concluded that the greater threat is not ISIS but domestic right-wing extremism.

Meanwhile, the police have been transformed into extensions of the military while the nation itself has been transformed into a battlefield. This is what a state of undeclared martial law looks like when you can be arrested, tasered, shot, brutalized and in some cases killed merely for not complying with a government agent’s order or not complying fast enough. This hasn’t just been happening in crime-ridden inner cities. It’s been happening all across the country.

And then you’ve got the government, which has been steadily amassing an arsenal of military weapons for use domestically and equipping and training their “troops” for war. Even government agencies with largely administrative functions such as the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Smithsonian have been acquiring body armor, riot helmets and shields, cannon launchers, and police firearms and ammunition. In fact, there are now at least 120,000 armed federal agents carrying such weapons who possess the power to arrest.

Rounding out this profit-driven campaign to turn American citizens into enemy combatants (and America into a battlefield) is a technology sector that has been colluding with the government to create a Big Brother that is all-knowing, all-seeing, and inescapable. It’s not just the drones, fusion centers, license plate readers, stingray devices, and the NSA that you have to worry about. You’re also being tracked by the black boxes in your cars, your cell phone, smart devices in your home, grocery loyalty cards, social media accounts, credit cards, streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon, and e-book reader accounts.

So you see, January 6 and its aftermath provided the government and its corporate technocrats the perfect excuse to show off all of the powers they’ve been amassing so assiduously over the years.

Mind you, by “government,” I’m not referring to the highly partisan, two-party bureaucracy of the Republicans and Democrats.

I’m referring to “government” with a capital “G,” the entrenched Deep State that is unaffected by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and has set itself beyond the reach of the law.

I’m referring to the corporatized, militarized, entrenched bureaucracy that is fully operational and staffed by unelected officials who are, in essence, running the country and calling the shots in Washington DC, no matter who sits in the White House.

This is the hidden face of a government that has no respect for the freedom of its citizenry.

Brace yourself.

There is something being concocted in the dens of power, far beyond the public eye, and it doesn’t bode well for the future of this country.

Anytime you have an entire nation so mesmerized by the antics of the political ruling class that they are oblivious to all else, you’d better beware.

Anytime you have a government that operates in the shadows, speaks in a language of force, and rules by fiat, you’d better beware.

And anytime you have a government so far removed from its people as to ensure that they are never seen, heard, or heeded by those elected to represent them, you’d better beware.

As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, we are at our most vulnerable right now.

All of those dastardly seeds we have allowed the government to sow under the guise of national security are bearing demon fruit.

The gravest threat facing us as a nation is not extremism but despotism, exercised by a ruling class whose only allegiance is to power and money.

Texas Governor Orders 1,000 Troops For “Post-Election Disturbances”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered 1000 troops to help dissolve “post-election disturbances.”  With only one week to go, many political ruling class parasites are trying to make martial law the “new normal.”

If you thought the possibility of a national mask mandate was bad, you probably won’t like the idea of martial law: coming soon to a city near you. In fact, in Texas, 5 major cities will have National Guard troops in them ahead of the November 3 elections.

The five cities that will see a form of martial law are Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. The troops will likely start hitting those cities beginning this weekend.

Although a formal announcement is expected from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott later this week, Guard commander Maj. Gen. Tracy Norris had already been directed to draft contingency plans for the cities in case there was trouble, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Guard spokesman Brandon Jones didn’t give detailed plans of the operation but said the troops could be sent this weekend—just days ahead of the presidential election. –Newsweek

Troops will likely be sent to places in the cities where flare ups and protests are going to happen either as a result of the outcome or the presence of extremists on either side before.  The details remain sketchy so far, including how many troops will be sent to each city.

We are being groomed to accept martial law:

This isn’t the first time this year that Abbott has deployed the Texas Guard to protect cities and historic landmarks. He sent them to San Antonio to protect the Alamo, and also to Austin to protect the state capitol during nationwide protests after the May 25 death of George Floyd, a Black man who died while in custody of the Minneapolis police. –Newsweek

Military Show of Force at Lincoln Memorial: Soldiers & Cops are Enforcing Tyranny

At the commands of the ruling class government, the police and military have decided to force tyranny and enslavement on the rest of us.  There has been little to no dissent from the order followers of the state, which doesn’t bode well for our future.

It seemed like we were making progress with waking up the masses.  However, there’s still a lot of people willing to enslave their fellow human beings on command. Soldiers and police are still only human beings, and as such bear moral culpability for the orders they follow.  As humans, they still have free will like the rest of us, and we need to make sure they understand that they are no better than the Gestapo at this point.

David Icke To LEOs & Military: “Look Your Children In The Eye” & Tell Them YOU Enforced Tyranny

A military show of force on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington caused a social-media uproar Tuesday night, and rightfully so. On American soil, the troops people have been stolen from for over a century to fund are now being used to make sure we submit to enslavement.

It’s time to open your eyes and look at whose boots are on your face.  The United States government is terrorizing the public and the military, made up of simple humans like the rest of us, are going along with it.  Don’t worry though. They are collecting a paycheck while a good number of Americans are out of work thanks to the government’s response to the plandemic.

The show of force came after President Donald Trump on Tuesday again urged governors to call in National Guard troops to quell nationwide protests that have often turned violent, after threatening Monday night to deploy military forces. On Monday, federal police aggressively cleared a peaceful crowd of protesters in front of the White House, so Trump could have a photo op at an historic church across the street, a move condemned Tuesday by many congressional Democrats but few Republicans. –Market Watch

We have to wake people up to what’s going on, or this will be the end of humanity.  We will all be slaves to be treated as the ruling class sees fit. If you thought we were nothing more than cattle before, brace yourself. It’s going to get a lot worse.  There are only two options and I’ve said this before. One, submission to enslavement and forever loss freedom to the point that humans will never even know what the word means.  Two, learn and wake up to the fact that no human should ever have power over any other human for any reason. That’s slavery. We will either be free, and the ruling class will be eliminated, or we will be slaves.  There are no other options. We cannot reform the government.  Any time power is given it will be abused.  That has been proven throughout history.

Jeff Berwick mentions these two options at the end of his most recent video (30:45). Which one would you prefer? You can’t be a slave and also be free.

Personally, I see a bright future. But it all depends on how many people wake up and stop letting other human beings enslave them. We are still a ways off from it, but it’s within our reach.

Stores In South Haven Michigan DEFY Tyrannical Governors’s Orders & Open Businesses

We are finally seeing a massive pushback against the tyrannical government.  People are getting tired of living under the boot of authoritarianism, and are disobeying the commands of politicians.

Politicians are just humans, and as such, have no power unless they are willing to violence to enforce their will.  That’s where law enforcement comes in.  But fortunate, we are finally seeing people get off their knees and stop bowing to the ruling class.  Instead, they are doing what we suggested weeks ago: stop asking permission and live like the free sovereign human being you were born as. People in South Haven, Michigan have finally stood up.

Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s latest shutdown extension, which was ordered without the support of the state legislature, has Michigan locked down through June 12th. Her self-declared state of emergency for Michigan got pushed back to June 19th, according to WBCK People in Michigan have decided to disobey her and begin to live their lives again.

As she extended the lockdowns, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the mortality rate of COVID-19 is no worse than the flu. Politicians seem upset that regular people are beginning to put 2 and 2 together to come up with 4 all on their own.

Residents of South Haven have finally had enough.  And they are not alone.

People all over this country are figuring out that they don’t need the government, it needs them.  As this becomes widely known, more people will be willing to stand up and look their master in the eye as they break their own chains.

For those who think it’s “wrong” to disobey a politician or police officer, consider this: are they not just humans like you and me? What gives them the right to take away your rights? How many votes are required to enslave you? Why are they considered more equal than the rest of us?

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.” -often attributed to Thomas Jefferson.

“The thing worse than the rebellion is the thing that causes the rebellion.” –Frederick Douglas

It’s past time to permanently abolish the last form of slavery and wipe it off the globe.  Humans were not meant to be ruled or governed. Humans are not the property of the state. Humans are not tax cattle to be used and abused from cradle to grave. Humans are free. Humans are sovereign. Humans own themselves.

Police Are Complicit in Politicians’ Disregard for the Rule of Law

This article was originally published by Ryan McMaken at The Mises Institute.

People of a certain age might remember the old John Birch Society slogan “Support your local police!” The idea here is that your local policeman is a liberty-loving buddy of yours who would only ever support just laws and constitutional mandates. Only those bad guys in the FBI or BATF would ever consider violating your rights.

Now, obviously that has always been a rather naïve fantasy, but the notion certainly has a long history of support among American conservatives. The idea that unionized, well-paid government employees sympathize with the common man instead of with the government that signs the cops’ checks apparently has long made sense (for some reason) to conservatives and many others.

David Icke To LEOs & Military: “Look Your Children In The Eye” & Tell Them YOU Enforced Tyranny

But thanks to the ongoing “state of emergency” and the fact that state governors, mayors, and health officials now rule by decree, we’re witnessing more and more how local law enforcement officers have no particular interest in the rule of law, the Bill of Rights, or basic human rights of any sort. Police have been at the forefront of arresting business owners for the “crime” of using their own private property, using city parks, and engaging in other peaceful activities.

As Judge Napolitano has noted, these “stay-at-home orders”—and the penalties that accompany them—aren’t even real laws since they were never passed by a legislature or brought into being by any process other than on the authority of a single person who is usually a state governor or municipal official. By no definition of “rule of law” do these measures meet basic moral requirements for their imposition on peaceful citizens.

But the police are enthusiastically enforcing these edicts nonetheless and using them as an excuse to harass the taxpayers.

Here are just a few examples from around the United States.

Keep in mind that no one is required to go near these places or interact with anyone involved. Those who wish to isolate themselves from these businesses and their clientele may freely do so. Yet these are just a handful of the many cases of police harassment involving citations, arrests, and other forms of coercion and intimidation brought against people who are just trying to live their lives. Nor should we assume that this is “as bad as it gets.” Since there is no longer any due process or public legislative process subject to checks and balances, governors and mayors can unilaterally decide at any time to ramp up social distancing requirements and business closures. If the public appears uncooperative, public officials can simply order police to be making mass arrests. We have no reason to think the police would not comply with this order.

After all, police personnel, who do not have a particularly impressive record when it comes to stopping or investigating real crime, have plenty of resources to crack down on nonviolent “perpetrators.”

The cases of New York and Odessa are instructive. Odessa law enforcement officers apparently have the extra time and resources to assemble a SWAT team in response to protests, but does this mean there is no real crime that needs investigating in Odessa? Of course not. According to the FBI’s 2018 crime survey, Odessa had 1,049 violent crimes in 2018, including 118 rapes and 819 aggravated assaults. If late 2019 and early 2020 were at all similar, then we’re talking about hundreds of violent crimes that Odessa-area police officials are ignoring in order to harass people for entering a tavern.

Indeed, if Odessa law enforcement agencies are anything like countless police agencies in other areas, only about half of the violent crimes are “resolved” at all. That is,

only 45 percent of violent crime lead to arrest and prosecution. That is, less than half of violent crimes result in what is known as a “clearance” of the crime. Property crime clearances are much worse. Only 17 percent of burglaries, arsons, and car thefts are “cleared.”

Among violent crimes, homicides experience the highest clearance rate by far, at 61 percent. Aggravated assault comes in at 53 percent, and rape at 34 percent.

But these are just cases where arrests are made and prosecutions are initiated. A smaller number of cases actually lead to convictions. A crime may be cleared even when the suspect is later exonerated.

New York is not exempt from these trends, yet the New York mayor recently dispatched one thousand cops to break up Jewish funerals and ensure that people don’t have barbecues on warm spring days.

By the way, there were more than forty-six thousand violent crimes in New York in 2018. But don’t fear, the police have extra personnel to come and break up your small backyard gathering.

There’s nothing surprising here, however. Police have long shown a lack of enthusiasm for addressing real crime, knowing that business owners, small-time drug users, and loiterers won’t fight back, and thus make for much better targets.

This is why police are often found to run and hide from truly violent criminals while the victims must fend for themselves, as in the case of the Parkland shooting or the case of the stabbing of Joseph Lozito.

Police are always careful to use the legal defense that they are not obligated to actually protect anyone from anything. The courts agree with this defense, and it is now well established legally that although you have an obligation to pay the police to “protect and serve,” the police have no obligation to actually provide protection.

But police officers and their bosses have convinced themselves that the really important policing right now involves hauling dog groomers off to jail and collecting revenue from parkgoers who are only standing five feet from the next person. But if you have a problem with real crime? You’re likely out of luck.
