Elderly victim who was beaten in viral nursing home video dies

The elderly nursing home resident who was shown being beaten in his room in a video that went viral two months ago has died, his family confirmed this week.

What are the details?

In late May, horrifying footage of a young person beating a helpless elderly person began circulation online, and the disturbing nature of the video sparked widespread outcry and an investigation. It even grabbed the attention of President Donald Trump, who tweeted, “Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?”

The victim was identified as 75-year-old Norman Bledsoe, a resident at the Westwood Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Detroit. Shortly after video of the attack went viral, Bledsoe’s roommate at the facility, 20-year-old Jaden Hayden, was arrested in connection with the beating.

Authorities said at the time that Bledsoe was hospitalized for “non-life-threatening” injuries.

The Detroit News reported that those injuries included “four broken fingers, broken ribs, and a broken jaw.” Mr. Bledsoe died Monday morning.

The victim’s nephew, Kevin Bledsoe, told the outlet of his uncle, “His eating habits went downhill after (the alleged assault on May 15), and he lost quite a bit of weight.” Kevin Bledsoe noted that the family had been prohibiting from visiting Norman Bledsoe at the nursing home following his release from the hospital, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“We finally were able to see him last week,” Kevin said. “He wasn’t doing very good. I guess there just wasn’t anything else they could do for him.”

The Bledsoe family is reportedly moving forward with a lawsuit against Westwood.

Anything else?

Hayden is accused of not only recording himself beating up Bledsoe, but posting the footage online and stealing the elderly man’s credit card following the attack. The accused reportedly has mental issues, and is due in court Thursday to determine whether he’s mentally fit to stand trial.

WJBK-TV pointed out that the 20-year-old was placed in the long term care facility after being diagnosed with COVID-19 due to Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) controversial policy of sending coronavirus patients “to nursing homes as a way to isolate them from the rest of the state to avoid spreading the virus further.”

Suspects charged in brutal beating caught on video. Victim says one attacker told him ‘Black Lives Matter’ as he kicked him in face.

Five suspects — three adults and two juveniles — have been charged in a
brutal assault caught on video outside a convenience store in Klein, Texas, last month.

Arrest warrants have been issued for a pair of 19 year olds — Eric Bradley and Ezkeyeleon Wilson — as well as for 18-year-old Seth Coles,
KTRK-TV reported. Two other suspects — ages 16 and 14 — are also charged with assault, KTRK said.

Anyone who knows how to find Bradley, Wilson, and Coles are asked to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crime Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers, the station said.

What’s the background?

The victim in the June 14 attack — a shopper at the Food Mart at 7134 Oakwood Glen Blvd. — was waiting to buy some items when a group tried to cut in line,
KTRK-TV reported in an earlier story.

“I looked over and said, ‘There’s a line for a reason,'” the shopper told the station.

Words were exchanged, and he added to KTRK that the group mocked his hair and clothes.

Then comes the beatdown

After he paid and left, the group met him in the parking lot and took turns kicking and punching him, the station said.

The victim told KTRK he just took the beating. Video of the attack shows he didn’t fight back or protect himself.

“I don’t know what else I could do,” he added to the station. “The fifth one at the end came out of the store after purchasing goods and came up to me and kicked me in the face and said, ‘Black lives matter, [expletive].'”

The victim suffered a swollen lip, bruising, and a cut near his eye, KTRK reported, adding that Harris County Sheriff’s deputies said he refused to seek treatment.

Here’s surveillance video of the attack:

The victim and his girlfriend asked not to be identified out of fear for their safety, the station said, adding that she said she’s received death threats.

“I really hope they’re caught before someone else gets hurt,” his girlfriend added to KTRK. “I hope that the people take this and don’t say, ‘It’s white against black.’ I don’t want this to be the statement. I want it to be, ‘Here’s a man who was checking out and stood up for himself, and he was targeted for that.'”

Some suspects are believed to be tied to another attack

Investigators believe some of the suspects in the Food Mart attack are tied to another brutal assault a few days later in southeast Houston, KTRK said in its latest story.

Video from the Houston attack shows a car backing up in a parking lot when it was hit by an SUV, the station said, adding that the SUV’s driver got out and was beaten unconscious by up to six people.

Leftist protesters beat up 60-year-old ‘gay progressive’ state senator: ‘Sad thing I’m on their side’

Protesters outside the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison smashed windows at the statehouse, tore down statues, and beat up Democratic state Sen. Tim Carpenter who was observing them overnight Tuesday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

What are the details?

Carpenter, 60, told the Washington Post the violence “has got to stop before someone gets killed. Sad thing I’m on their side for peaceful demonstrations — am a Gay Progressive Dem Senator served 36 years in the legislature.”

He also posted video on Twitter showing protesters charging at him — after which WKOW-TV staffer Lance Vesser tweeted that Carpenter said he was assaulted and then collapsed:

Carpenter said video he was recording “got me assaulted & beat up. Punched/kicked in the head, neck, ribs. Maybe concussion, socked in left eye is little blurry, sore neck & ribs. 8-10 people attacked me. Innocent people are going to get killed. Capitol locked – stuck in office. Stop violence now Plz!”

Here’s another image:

But the Journal Sentinel’s Lawrence Andrea reported that protesters said Carpenter “provoked them.”

Oh, and one of those torn-down statues? It’s of an abolitionist

Not to be outdone by clobbering one of their allies, leftist protesters tore down a statue of an abolitionist who died trying to end slavery during the Civil War, the Journal Sentinel said.

The paper said the nearly century-old statue of Col. Hans Christian Heg — an anti-slavery activist who fought and died for the Union — was decapitated and dragged from its spot guarding the statehouse and thrown into a lake by protesters.

And the statue of Wisconsin’s motto “Forward” — “an allegory of devotion and progress,” according to the Wisconsin Historical Society — also was torn down, the paper said.

‘I am saddened at the cowardice of Madison officials to deal with these thugs’

Robin Vos, Republican leader of the state Assembly, wasn’t happy about Tuesday night’s activities.

“This is absolutely despicable,” she reacted, according to the Journal Sentinel. “I am saddened at the cowardice of Madison officials to deal with these thugs.”

Vos also wondered why Democratic Gov. Tony Evers hadn’t intervened in the destruction of the statues, given it took place on state Capitol property, the paper said.

Spokeswomen for Evers and Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway — also a Democrat — didn’t respond to questions late Tuesday about police force’s slow response, the Journal Sentinel said.

More from the paper:

The unrest began earlier Tuesday following the arrest of a Black man who was arrested after bringing a megaphone and a baseball bat into a Capitol square restaurant. It followed weeks of mostly peaceful protests of the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was killed by a white police officer.

Protesters, chanting for the release of the man who’d been arrested earlier, also broke glass at the Tommy Thompson Center on West Washington Avenue, smashed windows and lights at the state Capitol, and set a small fire at the Dane County jail before police arrived just before 1 a.m.

Macy’s debunks narrative after Black man viciously attacks white man in viral video

A video of a Black man viciously beating a white man in a Michigan Macy’s department store went viral last week. The man who filmed the beatdown claimed the white man, a store employee, said the N-word, therefore provoking the attack.

That man, a 22-year-old rapper whose brother is responsible for the beating, told the New York Post that his brother was driven by “instinct.”

“Just the fact of the remark that he said that we all heard. And just, what else were we supposed to do? In this age and time, he didn’t know what else to do. That was just his instinct,” the rapper said.

However, Macy’s is disputing their version of events. In fact, the department store said the attack was “unprovoked.”

Andrea Schwartz, senior director of media relations for Macy’s, told MLive-The Flint Journal in a statement:

We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place on Monday (June 15) at Macy’s Genesee Valley as the safety of Macy’s customers and colleagues is our top priority.

Violence in the workplace of any kind is unacceptable. All the materials from the evening have been reviewed and it is clear that the attack was unprovoked. We are working closely with local authorities on this investigation, and will defer any further comments about the case to them per policy.

Flint Township police are currently investigating the incident.

“Officers learned an employee of the store was assaulted by a young black male who fled the scene with a second individual after the assault,” police said in a statement. “Store surveillance video confirmed the assault against the employee. Investigators also learned the assault was recorded by the second individual and shared on social media.”

According to local media, police are actively searching for the attacker and the man who filmed the brutal attack.

Violent mob brutally beats Dallas man protecting businesses — victim’s body ‘literally twisted’

Violent protesters brutally beat a Dallas man late Saturday who was protecting businesses, leaving the victim unconscious with a twisted and mangled body.

According to video captured by TheBlaze’s Elijah Schaffer, violent protesters descended on the man after he chased looters with a large sword. The man did not, however, attack the looters.

The graphic footage shows more than a dozen protesters brutally beating and stomping the man, who eventually fell unconscious. One protester even beat the victim with a skateboard.

“BREAKING: man critically injured at Dallas riots It appears he attempted to defend a shop with a large sword Looters ran at him, then he charged rioters They then beat him with a skateboard and stoned him with medium sized rocks I called an Ambulance and it’s on the way,” Schaffer wrote on Twitter.

Video of the incident received more than 20 million views by Sunday morning.

The victim
was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

Law enforcement
later confirmed the victim was carrying a machete to “protect his neighborhood from protesters.”

Police have not yet made any arrests in the shocking assault.

Suspect arrested after video surfaces showing violent beating of elderly nursing home patient

A man has been arrested in connection with the beating of a 75-year-old nursing home patient in Detroit, after a leaked video of the violent attack went viral.

What are the details?

Disturbing footage circulated on social media this week, showing a male suspect beating a helpless elderly man in what appears to be a room in a care facility. The perpetrator repeatedly punches the victim to the point of drawing blood, then cussing at the elderly man — calling him the N-word and repeatedly telling him, “get the f**ck off my bed.”

According to the Daily Caller, “additional unconfirmed videos of the suspect assaulting other elderly individuals have surfaced across social media,” and “it appears the assault was racially motivated.”

The Detroit Police Department made an arrest in the case on Thursday, and wrote on Twitter, “Thank you to everyone for your assistance in bringing the senior home incident to our attention.” Police have not named the suspect, but did disclose that he is a 20-year-old male who was also a patient at the Westwood Nursing Center, where the incident occurred.

During a press conference, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters, “The nursing home was unaware of the assault until they saw the video.”

The Detroit News reported that “the suspect was taken into custody at the nursing home and transported to the Detroit Detention Center without incident.” The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

WXYZ-TV reported that it is unclear why the suspect was being treated at the nursing home, and that “it appears the person who set up the phone to take the video is the 20-year-old suspect himself.”
